If you have the multimedia flash, check out this link.

New World Trade Center

I'm not sure if people in the states are already aware of this, but its news to me will no doubt be to plenty of other people all over the globe.

Any thoughts?

There have already been a few lengthy essays published in print on it, including several pointing out a number of a less savory factors (including political clout) that figured into the final decision making.

If they wanted to make a truly safe building from the same sort of attacks they'd have built it underground. The worst Bin Laden could do to it would be to fly in circles over the top of it.

It's a stupid idea I know, but I actually think the lot should be left bare in remembrance, or turned into a memorial park or something of that ilk.

There has been a lot of discussion about what to do with the site where the World Trade Towers once stood. Immediately after the towers collapsed, there was a move to rebuild them "to show those bastards they can't break us". Many of the relatives of people who were killed in New York want a permanent memorial built like the one in Oklahoma City that was built at the site of the old Murrah Federal Building. Quite simply, that's not going to happen.

The property the WTC occupied is simply too valuable to let sit. The old twin towers had something like million square feet of office space that will need to be replaced. Something will go up in downtown New York; the only variables are how big will it be and who is going to build it. I'm sure that some sort of memorial will be incorporated into whatever structure takes the place of the WTC, but it will not exclusively be a memorial, and New Yorkers know that.

I might be called cold for saying this..but from looking at the design (in the link) I see a lot of wasted space.

Yes it is nice looking. But for my view point, land equals money. Wasted land equals wasted space.

I think it looks quite nice from an aesthetic viewpoint, but I agree slighlty with Weasel. The jury is still out on this for me...

It might be beautiful, but i rather see it as a memorial than anything else. Rebuilding it would just make people paranoid every time a plane passes near. Also it shouldn't be that tall.

But land in NYC is not cheap and they need the WTC back. So the jury as well is out on this one. I am undecided.

I think it looks good at it seems to me to be the only right thing to do.

I also recon they can fit quite a few offices in there.

I like the musical selections from "Twin Peaks" included in the web site.

Oh, boy am I going to get lynched...

I think the design is horrible! The term "Bug ugly" comes to mind. It looks like a bunker with a hat, or a bad copy of the Arcologies in Sim City. Now, if you built it in Las Vegas, it might blend in, but no, I don't like it. I think the Towers should be rebuilt looking pretty much the same as they did. That would be a statement.

I think they shouldn't rebuild the twin towers, but build 2 gigantic red obelisks with the same height as the towers had.
But this is a good second.
