multiplayer party

Post by hwttdz »

Any ideas on a multi-player party? I want to take one through BG and BG:II and ToB.

I love the elven archer in BG:II as a protagonist. That means I have to take a ranger through BG:I not really my favorite.

I'm thinking about a mage for just the minimum amount of levels and then dualing to a fighter, just to have a familiar.

Maybe a ranger and dual to cleric very low level to get the weapon ** and more spells.

I need a thief for BG:II I can't stand Yoshimo knowing he will desert us.

A mage with 18 or 19 int would be nice because I can't use Edwin because he's evil.

I would suggest to go for what you like,
I do suggest that when you multiplayer and don't want to take any NPC's to keep the party as small as possible.

-1 fighter
-1 thief
-1 mage
-1 cleric

this 4membert part will get you through BG1 and 2 without to much problems, if you use them well. But if you want a ranger with them, go ahead!!!!!

Hope this helps

Good luck

You don't think that party is too light on the fighters? And you think that they should all be straight up.

I have played with lots of different characters. All of them had their good points. I think the most important thing is how you like to play. If you prefer melee-intensive battles, then your party should have at least two fighter-types. If you enjoy spellcasting, you should have at least two mages in your party (single-class or dual-class). I can't really tell you which is "best".

I think it's difficult to import a character from BG1 into BG2. The level cap in BG1 is a limiting factor, and so is the lack of subclasses. For example, if I wanted to play a Berserker dualled to a Thief in Shadows of Amn, I would make her dual-class at 13th level. If I tried to play the "same" character in BG1, that means I'd have to play her as a Fighter all th way through the game. What if I didn't want to do that? Well, the answer is, I'd play a different character in BG1, and then change her into the character I wanted to play in BG2.

If you don't mind doing a little bit of "cheating", one thing you might consider doing is editing the NPC's so that they can have the same attributes and abilities as multi-player characters you rolled up yourself. I've edited nearly all of the NPCs at one time or another. For example, in Shadows of Amn, I've made Imoen a Swashbuckler with STR 17, and I've made Nalia a Conjurer. I've made Minsc a Berserker (no one ever seems to play him as a Ranger in the first place). I've made Aerie a single-class Illusionist with CON 16. By making them the kind of characters I wanted to have in my party, I was able to enjoy their dialogue. It also made the story more interesting to take the NPCs' histories into account. For example, Minsc and Imoen could have been in your party in BG1, while you could meet NEW friends in Shadows of Amn. I enjoy working with the existing storyline when I put a party together.

When you get near the end of Shadows of Amn, or if you play Throne of Bhaal, your characters are going to have abilities you never dreamed of, and the strategies you used to fight monsters in BG1 might not be as useful as they used to be. That's one reason why I wouldn't play an Archer all the way through the series. Archers are terrific at lower level and mid-level, but when they get to be really high level, you might find yourself wishing they had other abilities. A lot of monsters are immune to weapons with an enchantment of less than +3. That limits your choices in combat. Throne of Bhaal has +3 arrows, but Shadows of Amn doesn't. The Short Bow of Gesen has a +4 enchantment, but what if you have an elven Archer with grand mastery in Longbows? It's annoying.

Personally, I think you'd get the most enjoyment out of the game if you learned how to use spells and items to the best of your ability. If you buff up your characters and learn how to pierce through your enemies' defenses, you can handle just about anything. So I would choose a party that is as versatile as possible.

Speaking of versatile characters, my favorites have always been dual-class characters. Berserkers dualled to Clerics, Fighters dualled to Thieves, and Swashbucklers dualled to anything have been my favorites. I don't like multi-class characters at really high levels because they are so much weaker than their single-class counterparts. That's why I prefer Imoen (a Thief dualled to a Mage) to Aerie (a Mage/Cleric). Imoen has more Wizard spells, and she is really awesome at high levels. A lot of people think that Viconia is a better Cleric than Aerie for the same reason, and they're probably right. You also need to take the special high level abilities into account if you're going to play Throne of Bhaal. Single-class Fighters and sub-classes really shine at high levels. If you're planning to take the "same" characters all the way through the series, then you need to look at what they'll eventually become, and start planning early.

You coudl add another fighter, that will surely come in handy but it's no must.

I'm not a big fan of overpowered party's, i like to keep them small so you level up faster.
That's why I never have to many multiclass characters in my team.
It's even possible to solo, if you want that, it's chalanging!!
I posted my solo story just a few days ago, if you're intrested.

good luck!
