Me. I was four the first time I watched it, and after that I knew what was going to happen. :p

When Lucasfilm released the Special Editions in 1997, I went to see ANH at a theater full of people. Everyone knew the Death Star was going to blow up, but we still cheered anyway.

It's part of the communal experience of going to a movie; you and several hundred of your closest friends get to gasp when Jango Fett loses his head or cheer for Rocky when he beats Apollo Creed and gets the girl. That's why movie theaters will never be supplanted by video or DVD; people want to have an experience, not just see a film.

I had a lot more fun watching Blade 2 than i did AoTC, i found at least an hour and a half of the movie extremely tiresome, the only parts i did like were involving Ewan McGregor, he was good. I am not bowled over by CG and i usually find it is poorly handled (not the case with AoTC) i don't expect every film to be an amazing story, don't get me wrong.
I try not to overanalyse films. I enjoy them. If they're a little hokey or they get creative with physics, that's okay, because if I want real life, I'll turn on CNN or FOXNews.
I don't analyse a film that captures my imagination or isn't pretentious, if i have to sit through plot i pay attention to it and i got bored by AotC and it didn't fulfill one iota of it's potential IMO.
Field of Dreams reminded me of everything that is good about baseball.
LOL :D I will say though, i like Field of Dreams :)

The first Star Wars movie came out 6 years before I was born, and I didn't see the special editions at the cinema.

You cheered for Rocky?! :p :D

Sure. Everyone should cheer for Rocky. Not in the second or later movies, but Rocky (1976) won the Best Picture Oscar over All The President's Men, Bound For Glory, Network, and Taxi Driver.

Stallone has made some stinker movies (Stop! . . . Or My Mom Will Shoot! comes to mind), but Rocky was a fantastic movie. It's the classic story of the American dream: a small-time hoodlum gets a shot at the big time, overcomes all odds and adversity and gets the girl. After the first one, Stallone had to milk the franchise for all it was worth (and then some) which hurt the credibility of the original picture, but people forget just how good it was.

@Rob-hin:
Go see it anyway.

Yeah, the first Rocky was a really good movie. Ditto to seeing AotC in the theatre. Image
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

*sigh* :( No one could ever convince me that Rocky is better than "All the presidents men".

Re Rocky

I've only seen the one with Mr T as the bad guy.

I cheered for Mr T.

I'll do that when I try and rent Return of the Overfiend, if any of the video stores have it.

Speaking of animation has anyone here seen Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker? I’ve never seen the actual BB show (the WB lost it’s affiliate here about 4 years ago) but I heard good things about this movie. The main issue was that Warner Bros. hacked the film to pieces and edited all the best stuff out. I’ve read about the differences between the edited and unedited films online and when I saw a copy of the unedited DVD at a comic book shop recently I quickly scooped it up.

Simply put, it rocked. Mark Hamill gives his best Joker performance. He’s slightly more reserved than usual, but it works great since the Joker is never more sinister than in his quieter moments when his voice is low and insinuating. What he does to Robin (Tim Drake, not **** Grayson) is truly sick and quintessentially true to his character. The fight scenes are great (anime-esque in places) and story reeled me in, despite me having read the plot online.

Favorite Lines:

Joker: "If you don't like the movie, I've got slides." The sickest line in the film (I loved it!) but it probably won't make sense out of context. Image

Batman: "I'll break you in two." Wow, Bruce can be damn scary! (the delivery is great) He's understandably p!ssed after seeing what the Joker's done.

This may seem a little off topic (a little?!), but since Mark Hamill plays the Joker and the movie's title is similar to Return of the Jedi I figured I could get away with it.

IIRC Wicked City has an R rating, and in Australia if there's anything higher than an R rating it gets banned, as the censors refuse to classify it. Lousy old wowsers.

No, but i did watch the Batman animated series, that was excellent :) I also watched the most recent film, i can't recall it's name; it has Dr Freeze in it. Also very good :)

@Ode, you wont find it then, it didn't get a classification in the UK either ( i think ) which might be a good thing for the publics sanity :) I will explain a little bit, it is about Sojin who is this God of sorts and all these forces are trying to kill him and then we have this weird anti hero saving this clone and all manner of peversion, it is just strange and scary. Kid has seen it IIRC, he will undoubtedly agree with my caution.

Wicked City is fantastic, if a little esoteric here and there :)

Subzero. Yeah, it’s pretty good (it's not the last though, Return of the Joker came after it). But the best Batman animated film (in fact the best Batman film period) is Mask of the Phantasm. It's been years since I last saw it but one scene has stayed with me. Bruce, kneeling over his parents grave saying, "It doesn't mean I don't care anymore. I don't want to let you down, honest, but... but it just doesn't hurt so bad anymore. You can understand that, can't you? Look, I can give money to the city -- they can hire more cops. Let someone else take the risk, but it's different now! [thunder and lightning] Please! I need it to be different now. I know I made a promise, but I didn't see this coming. I didn't count on being happy. [thunder and lightning] Please! Tell me that it's okay." This scene was incredible. Poor Bruce feels guilty that he's found love and is happy (it's quite common for people who recently suffered a loss to feel guilt when they're happy). Even a decade after his parents murder he's still feel that loss, and can't bring himself to be happy. It almost had me in tears. If only the live-action films could do Batman half this good...

My best friend and I noticed this in English Lit. In all the works of Shakespeare we studied, the protagonist and most of the important characters always die! Every time, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, all the main cast die in the end!

This "Shakespeare phenomenom" is one of the undeniable truths of literature.
You know, there's a reason why those are all in the category of Shakespeare's tragedies, rather than his comedies or history plays... :p ;)

@HLD - I haven't actually seen Rocky, but I thought that he loses to Apollo Creed?

The match was declared a draw, but for all intents and purposes, Rocky won; he wasn't even supposed to put up a fight.
