The Vong are interesting, if a tad... masochistic (My gripe about one-upmanship applies to them too). Overall they’re not bad though. The NJO on the other hand... ugh! These bozos don’t deserve to be called Jedi. They’re a quarrelsome group of haughty, angst-ridden freaks. It's more like Dawson's Creek than Star Wars. If I have to suffer through anymore Solo baby crap I’m going to go Anakin on someone’s ass (Tusken-whacking style baby!).

There's a hilarious topic on the Force.net that spoofs the EU. Check it out here.
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

About the EU...

The only authors I like are Timothy Zahn (the Thrawn series) and Michael A. Stackpole (Rogue Squadron and I, Jedi). Vector Prime was good too.

About the movie... (MASSIVE MOVIE SPOILERS!!!!!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!!!!!!!)

I really didn't like it. :( Alot of it was good, and it had the right ingrediants, but with a different director, it could have been so much better. I feel that George Lucas is not a very good director. He refused to use the whole story line with the whole EU (about the references to the clone wars and such, and with Boba Fett's storyline). Also, he is good at technical stuff and at the battle scenes. But as a full director... is was bad.

Alot of the dialogue didn't make sense, and there was also too much of it. Palpatine: "I take on this position with great reluctence, and my first move will be to create an army!". Also, if Anikin missed his mother so much, why didn't he ever visit her for ten years? Why didn't he go back before? The middle hour was really tedious, being almost all dialogue.

Now, it had its good points, like Yoda. Also, with the clones at the end with Palpatine over seing them, with the Imperial March playing in the background... that was really good. The fight scenes were good, except for the fact that the Jedi were a lot weaker then I thought they would be.

Now, I've been a Star Wars fan all my life, but I was fairly disappointed in this movie. :(

@Gaxx: Well, let's see you survive as long as they did with about 500 blasters being shot at them at one time. If anything, I thought they made that scene more believeable with the fact that some Jedi were dying.

The Guyver... now, I know absolutely nothing about this movie, but it has a great tagline... Some mutants are more equal than others. :D Doesn't that just scream "must-see movie" at ya? :D

Hey, that Jedi training is a time-consuming business, y'know! :D

I have to wonder how come the Jedi council don't realise that "bringing balance to the Force" might not be such a good plan ;)

Sure, but still...

Btw, what exactly do they mean by "bringing balance to the force"? Wouldn't that mean between good and evil?

Well, that's what I would assume  I mean, Jedi are hardly druids, they're not neutral, they're obviously good...

There was that dialogue between Mace Windu and Yoda about the Jedi's decreased ability to use the Force. Perhaps the "balance" had something to do with that (like it was out of whack or something).

According to Uncle George, the Sith are an unbalancing blight upon the Force. When Anakin/Vader tosses Palpy over the railing and renounces the Sith ways himself in RotJ, he restores balance by finishing them off once and for all (or something to that effect. Lucas is known to change his mind about such things).

Explain to me how that’s a bad thing. Image I’m fairly contemptuous of the EU (though I hide it well) Image so I’m happy whenever Lucas sticks it to them. EUers are living in denial if they think Boba Fett made it out of the Sarlaac Pit (another big gripe I have). That’s why Lucas had Maul cut in half and Jango beheaded, so no wag EU freak will bring them back (although knowing the EU, they’ll probably find a way).

That was why Palpy was given more power. There wasn’t a complete consensus in the senate to agree on making an army to stand against the separatist. But everyone agreed that having one dude in charge would get things done fast. Palpy's speech made perfect sense given the situation

Jedi are taken to be trained as infants (except in unusual cases like Anakin and Luke). To keep them from getting all over emotional the code limits the relations a Jedi can have (and after seeing what Anakin does to the Tuskens after his mother is killed, can you blame them?) The cause of Anakin’s fall (according to Uncle George) is that he holds on too tightly to the past, and can’t let things go.

They were outnumbered about a hundred to one. I think they put up one hell of fight considering the odds.

Personally I loved it. Perhaps it should have been called: Star Wars Episode II, How George Got his Groove Back Image Image

Nice font HLD. But I thought I had the only green jeans on Game Banshee. Image

When I first saw this I thought you were deliberately misquoting me. Then I saw HLD’s name on the top of quote. I guess I got used to being the only green font user on the board. Image

Whatever. :p I still didn't like parts of it. Lucas, IMHO, is very good at special effects and fight scenes. Not at making whole movies.

I don't completely have my thoughts in order about the movie yet, but suffice to say I didn't like it too much. Sure, it had some great parts, but...

I'm going to see it again with some friends this week. I might have a better idea then. ;)

The way I see SW's these days is more of a series made towards a fan base, rather then a movie thats designed to win awards. It'll appeal to the hard core fans, but those who have been iffy about them, it's hit or miss.

Just saw this today (skipped my university lab session :D ).

It will grow on me. I thought the "dark" side of Anakin was handled very well and the mass Jedi battle was awesome.

Shortland Street, right? Honei Ropatar (or whatever ;) ) I did LMAO at the thought of him being Jango Fett :)

From my quick scan through this thread it would seem i am the only person who thinks it was crap :D

what were you expecting? plot? a good script? reasonable hairstyles?

as far as i can tell, everyone else was just expecting star wars episode 2, and if it was better than episode one, so much the better  ;) :D

it does what it sets out to be as well as can be expected. just lean back and enjoy captain lucas's wild ride... :D

I am too tired to go into my problems, it just didn't captivate me, and i could wax lyrical about my problems, but i don't see a reason. Safe to say i wasn't dissapointed it was exactly what i expected it to be. I had a little excitement which was soon dummed down.

Don't think of me as a person who can't disassociate the different elements, i have seen far too many films now to be captivated by a pointless effort like Episode 2.

One thing i will say, the score was the best thing :)

Oh and just because it is better than the first one doesn't necessarily say it was a decent film.

It all comes down to this, they pan up at the start, it wrecked the whole thing! :D

One thing i will say in my defence, i went to watch it with a person who has never seen or even been near star wars, he had even more derisory comments than i did...

yes, well, being footloose and fancy free like myself, i don't set particularly high expectations on films, so i didn't mind it. it isn't anywhere near my favourite films of all time, and without a doubt an SFX fest, but i didn't have to pay to see it, and (as my post count testifies) i have nothing to do with my time until september, so anything with yoda in is worth a look  :D
