XP problems with BG2?

Post by Gruntboy »

Anyone had problems with BG2 using windows XP (or point me towards a thread relating to this)?

OK, so I'm also running it on a laptop and I'm exploring this avenue but I don't think BG2 has full XP support yet.

Thanks.

Well, I had at first a problem running the game with 3D accelleration on, but I got the lastest drivers for my card, and then it worked fine. :)

I've been running BG2 on XP for some time now and haven't had any serious problems. The biggest issue was the problem with the background NPC having nothing to say, but fortuantely a nice little patch fixed that.

@Grunty, what sort of problems are you having? As Gaxx said, display drivers help out a lot with this. One thing I have noticed is the BG2 engine was originally designed to use an OpenGL driver for 3D effects. This driver has not been updated for Win2k or XP, so that may cause some problems if you have a fairly basic display system (as most laptops tend to have).

OK.

Looks like an XP or Toshiba software problem.

After BG2 has been on for a bit (about 10 mins), the power management switches from AC to battery power - despite a cable/plug/nuclear power plant connection. Its like the system thinks it is in standby.

I've tried turning all the power saving feautures off. I've tried disabling the Toshiba power management, I've tried turning XP's power management off. It still does it. In addition, after such an occurance, I cannot turn the laptop on and recognise the AC power for about 10-20 mins.

You see the problem - 20 minutes of gameplay and you're on battery (reduces processor output - game becomes sluggish).

This happened for DVD's but after switching to XP power management it doesn't.

The game play is fine - graphics etc. aren't a problem on AC power, its the battery power-saving mode that's a killer. I will continue to check XP and Toshiba sites.

Cheers.
