mass spamming

Post by Morlock »

I wanted to put 'ironicaly NO SPAM', but I couldn't rule it out completely. Feel free to spam, but on topic only.

I wanted to know what GB's official position on spam.
This because I've been here almost a year now, and I see that there many members who joined around and after I joined, who have reached post numbers far higher then I've gotten to.
I am not that superficial, but it would be nice to at least get 4 digits in there before my GBBDay.

Anyway as far as I've seen a lot of them have gotten the number of post by going on 'Spamming spree' and answering something like 10-15 of the threads- most of it meaningless spam. (is there any other kind? :p )

Could I do that? or is that something officialy not allowed but the more established member (Georgi, Sleepy, Aegis.... :D ) seem to do it in a stride.

I'm getting sidetracked. I would apritiate any positive replies. I would loathe any negative ones! :p

To a certain extent I agree, but then look at a new member like Azmodan, she did 100 in 3 days, very similar to Aegis and Georgi but no one frowned on it, we all do it, some less than others though.

I haven't done a lot of spamming for ages...what difference does it make how much you post, it is what you post that is important. It isn't a phallic thing you know ;)

I don't speak officially BTW, my opinion is that you should just post as much as you feel like without going overboard (like posting in every thread so the entire first page is made up of your name after the thread) quite often a lot of posts is due to conversations, when you are talking to someone you end up with a lot more posts.

At one point i was spamming alot, like a couple of hundred a week. That was alot, and i just took a break, oh yeah after sleepys thread complaining, i really slowed down! :p
I tend to limit myself to a max of 30 posts a day - that is not always the case, like yesterday i wen't waaaaaaay over. It is ok here to spam, it is normal i guess. So go ahead

I’m what you might call a “conservative spammer.” I’ve been here over year and I’ve yet to break 2000 posts (my post count is paltry compared to Sleepy or Weasel). Basically I post mostly irreverent crap, but only on topics that interest me. Image

I agree with Mr Sleep, it's quality not quantity that really counts. As for the post count, that's more an ego thing (no offence to those proud of their post count).

Something else to note: The Black Isle boards have had the post count system removed entirely to promote more relevant posts and cut down on spam.
There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't.
I think I think, therefore I might be.

You think that’s funny? Check out my post on page four of Grunt’s What Does the Future Hold topic. Image Froggus said my post was "the funniest thing ever posted in SYM" (BTW Morlock, this is both spam and shameless self-promotion). Image

@Morlock, you also have to appreciate that a lot of mine, Georgi, Weasel and Aegis posts were actually about BG2 and the other Banshee games. There wasn't even an SYM when we started posting.

@Kayless, he hasn't been around long enough to witness the Rail Gun or Grunts Island or Waverly vs Weasel ;)

I've slowed down quite a bit as well. As Sleep already said, a lot of our posts were done in the days before SYM, and when threads like 'Goody' reigned supreme.

Actually, SYM was here when I started posting. ;) Although I did start in the BG2 forum... but then the harem moved here cos we were spamming up the Anomen thread, and thought we might get in trouble :D

And you're jealous of people who have more posts than you? Okay 4 digits everbody wants. But do you really want 5000 posts. What a waste of time. I thought my 2300 posts were alot. I've seen people like SS, BS, Georgi, all registered after me, go ahead of me.

As far as I see it, they have a less of life than me. Take it in stride. Atleast you're doing something rather then spend a few months posting 20 posts per day.

My post per day is like 5.25. I have posted about 1 post per day for the past few months since Feburary. I went from 600 posts, to 1600 in July, August and September. Then it was Summer Vacation and even though there is no school me, eventually I ran out stuff to do with friends. No movies, so we just screwed around in each others houses. After a while there's really little to do other than vacationing in summer.

So look it like everbody else who registered 2 months ago and have 900 posts have really nothing to do.

I was just over the 50 mark when I came to SYM, and even then for a while I still had a low post count.

However Weasel's One Word Story and the Rolling Thunder have seen it skyrocket in recent months. That and having off-topic conversations in threads that got sidetracked.

...but it could be the other way around... people also post here to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of real life. ;)

I'm a very busy person, if I may say so myself. After work, rather than go to sleep or go on a drinking spree with my friends, I would visit GB instead... and COMMunicate all the way. :D

Not only am I entertained in this forum, I learn a lot from other people too... :)
