Like AR I enjoyed Back To The Future, as well as Godfather and Star Wars.

Worst sequels, well I've seen all the Tarzan movies made in late 1950's I think? I wouldn't exactly recommend them though

Thankfully I've never seen the Karate Kid series. :D

Aliens. The first two were great, but Alien3 should never have been made, and Ressurection was just pointless.

Here are two more nominations for worst sequels. Blair Witch 2 and Babe 2

Talk about destroying two hugely potential franchises while they are not even in their prime.

Blair Witch 2... Why would someone even want to make a sequel when the originality of the first one is what made it so famous... it's hardly original the second time around...

Grease 2  Sooo lame (and yes dammit, the first one was a classic! :p )

Batman - not all the sequels were that bad, but Batman and Robin was... Certain movies do lend themselves quite well to the franchise, and superhero movies are the main one IMO - whether comic book ones like Batman, Superman, X Men (I know the sequel hasn't been made yet, but I'm betting it will be good), or the action hero ones like Indiana Jones, James Bond (I can't believe nobody mentioned James Bond yet - #20 out this Christmas, isn't it?)

Jurassic Park - two bad sequels

Star Wars - great sequels, shame about the prequel ;)

Agree with Mr Flibble about Alien/Aliens...

Other good sequels: Terminator 2, Austin Powers TSWSM, Blade 2...

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that a great sequel will be... The Two Towers :D

My favourite sequels:

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Aliens
T2: Judgement Day
Desperado
Back to the Future III
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Return to Savage Beach

Good movies that never should have had a sequel:

Friday the 13th - the first one was actually pretty scary, but the remaining movies beat the series to death
Highlander - "there should have been only one"
Rocky - People forget how good the first Rocky movie was becasue the rest were so bad, but the original Rocky deservedly won Best Picture in 1976
Silence of the Lambs
Jurassic Park
Psycho
Nightmare on Elm Street - Original premise cool villain, should have stopped after the first one

Generally bad series of movies:

All of the odd-numbered Star Trek movies
All of the Star Wars with the word "Phantom" in the title - George's obsession with eye candy undermined all of the other important things (like character development and the plot) in what should have been a very good movie
Anything starring Dona Speir as Donna Hamilton
Jesus saves! And takes half damage!

If brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough.

They did a sequel for Grease

Another great sequel Toy Story and the Naked Guns

Further candidates for worst sequels. Police Academy, thank heavens I still a toddler in the 80's. :D

I am glad someone mentioned it :)

The sequels to this great film are nothing but appaling. They taint everything that was good about Psycho, they also destroyed Anthony Perkins career (although some say Psycho itself did that) A pox on all 3 of the sequels....

Best sequel? Probably Aliens. So many elements of Half-Life, and also Half-Life: Opposing Force, originated from of Aliens I'm suprised james Cameron didn't sue for copyright infringement.

Worst sequel? Probably Phantom Menace, considering its lineage.

Actualy, I think, considering the lineage- it was not as bad as it could have been. You have to allow at least one of the prequals to be bad- since you have the story dictated to you. George couldn't have made Anakin 20 out of comfort. And Anakin is the main flaw in the movie.

@HLD: I don't think its fair to put 'Hannibal'- which IMO had some charm (and Anthony Hopkins ;) ) on the same list as 'The Lost World' or 'Rocky 2-5', which had nothing positive in them.

Someone here actualy saw Blair Witch 2???  :o

About James Bond- IMO you can devide by actors:
Sean Connery- Great
George Lazenby- Good, but we have to see more of him to judge
Roger Moore- ranging from OK to very good
Timothy Dalton- One was OK, one was bad
Pierce Brosnan- They took out almost everything that made Bond Bond. Now its just a logo, and some action hero who has the same name.

My Favorites: 'From Russia with Love', 'You only live twice', 'Diamonds are forever' and 'Goldfinger'.

In James Bond 20 'Die another Day'- nothing is left to identify Bond as Bond. Even Q isn't there- Desmond Llewelen(SP), who played him, died in a car accident last year. At least thay replaced him with someone who can do justice as a replacment- John Clease. I thought that was sort of coincidential that out of the 19 movies, they had Q train a replacement in the last one, which happened to be a few weeks before the actor died.
Something fishy is going on, if you ask me.

Well I can confidently say that it was a rental. Plus I didn't choose the movie, I have no say in movies now. Ever since that fateful day I chose Freddy Got Fingered. :o :D

I disagree. I think Timothy Dalton could have been a good Bond but the scripts he good weren't so great... and he was at that point where they were trying to update Bond a bit and so he had to be a bit less of a womaniser etc. With Brosnan I think Bond regained the hard edge that Connery had.
In the same vein- Which is worse, the planet of the Apes sequels, TV show or the remake?
Well, I have only seen the "reimagining" as Mr Schumacher likes to call it... but the rest would have to be pretty bad to compare :D

The Sequel's actually ;) I didn't mind Vaughn's performance although he was a little too much of a leading man, my main problem with the remakes was Anne Heche; she was just plain bad.

@Bond, Goldeneye is incredibly hackneyed and i prefered the Dalton James Bond movies, the reason i hate Goldeneye so much? It is basically due to Ms MoneyPenny suddenly becoming a feminist. I have no problem with the idea they just handled it really badly :(

@Dalton, i also think he was quite good, perhaps a little too intense for the role. The ironic thing is that he was up for the part in the original Bond movie and only 30 years later did they give him the job :D

I just see the whole thing as, well, rather superfluous. What's the point, when there's no way it was going to improve on the original...? And must I mention their *ahem* alteration in the scene where he's watching her get undressed... No need!

Is Licence to Kill the one where Bond punches M etc.? I thought that was just ridiculous...
