can't save my game!

Post by Rheomyr »

 Hi, I know that a lot of you guys had a similar problem, maybe somebody can help me. I am in the Second Cellar of the Catacombs and cannot save my game any more: it keeps crashing, so I lost one saved game already (once it is crashed -- it is gone). Moreover, it crashes when I try to exit the cellar (or any other location). I had patches 1.3 and 1.4 installed (and extracted) prior to this problem. So, naturally, I reinstalled the game and the latest patch... to the same effect. I downloaded earlier games (different locations etc). Same thing. Can't save anything anywhere anymore. My system is P4-2Gh-512RAM-120G HD-GeForce3-Windows XP. I am really tired of this bug-ridden "game", but want to finish it. Any suggestion is appreciated. Please help!

Just a thought, try to move all your savegames into a different location and keep only a couple of your most recent savegames in the save directory (keep in mind that you will need also *.sta with the same name of your savegame). Hope that helps.

Well, thanks for the advice, Demis; I followed your instructions. Unfortunately, it did not work out. Finally, I deleted ALL savegames and started a new campaign. Guess what happened? Nothing. CANNOT SAVE.

Then i suggest you address Ubi Soft for that problem, you might what to drop them an email or visit Ubi Soft Solution Center.

If you don't find an answer there you can also post your problem/question.

Yep, I did this last night. Actually, I found out (while browsing their site for possible solutions) that my W-XP Professional goes totally unsupported, so I have a good reason to believe that there is no way to fix the problem. I wiped off all files, reinstalled the game and patches (I am a stubborn sort), restarted... to no avail. Looks like the d*** thing corrupted something somewhere. The bottom line: if you have outdated win-95/98, you are fine; if you own, God forbid, win-2000/XP, you are doomed. I'll be waiting for Ubi Soft reply.

I actually played the whole game with minor bugs under WinXP before patch 1.4 was out, but then again you never know  :) . As for all games they can't be compatible with all the systems maybe something on your pc messes things up. I hope you find a solution though.

As a matter of fact, the whole idea about unsupported XP belongs to Ubi Soft tech support. But I am glad to hear that somebody got lucky. I finally found a couple of undeleted PoR files I had overlooked before. After eliminating them I was able to start from scratch and play just "with minor bugs" once again.
