Those bastards! Keep looking though. Even though you aren’t thrilled with your current job, it sounds like it affords you some time to canvas with emails. BTW is it still cool to put ‘Fortran’ on a resume?

Oh, and find a recruiter who specializes in your field and bug the hell out him or her. Recruiters cost you nothing, and can work wonders.

Have you ever thought of working outside the UK...

... say, Thailand? ;)

the pantless trapeze artist?!
Here where the flattering and mendacious swarm
Of lying epitaths their secrets keep,
At last incapable of further harm
The lewd forefathers of the village sleep.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the job, @Grunt. I'd hug ya 'cept I don't want to get covered by napalm. :D ;) You and I both know there will be other opportunities along the way. In the meantime, go and get drunk and kill a few things. You've earned it. :)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

But of course Grunt. Just send a check for $99.50 (U.S. currency) to me and I’ll not only give you the certificate, but a spiffy new T-shirt too! Order today! Image Image
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

 Or, probably they know exactly what they are missing...

Hard luck, Grunty, especially you missed a chance to employ a red-head assistant.

Seriously, though, you'll get a much better opportunity sooner or later, I believe. :)
