Life time project - life

Post by C Elegans »

And here, post the things you feel you absolutely want to do and want to experience during your life time. Anything! :)
Some things I'd like to do:

- make discoveries of fundamental importance for finding a cure against many common neurological/neuropsychiatric diseases and disorders such as schizophrenia or Alzheimers.
- visit Antarctica and climb the sea cliffs of South Georgia. Visit samarkand (in Uzbekistan) , South Africa and the burning mountains in Azerbadjan (the burn because of natural gas). See the national park in Turkey with all the salt formations.
- Go with a berber trading caravan through southern Sahara (on camel, of course)
- Go by boat along the Huang-ho river
- reproduce

You're not planning to do the reproduction thing while caravaning with the Berbers, are you?

Frankly, I'm quite impressed by that knowing that both you and your wife have had very active careers as researchers - I can't imagine how to find the time to raise children.

Travel overland (as far as posible) from the UK to Australia.

Don't know if I will do it as it is too expensive, but if I can find a way...

I want to fly either into space or just in the sky.

But not in the corny tourist sense or the rich private plane type.

I want to earn my wings...

And on a lesser note

Make a million and then lose it all gambling. Knowing full well I would be able to make another ;) :D

Make that two of us! ;) :D :p

Seriously, I would like to travel round the world and learn about the cultures of other people. European countries such as Spain, Austria and Switzerland have always held a fascination for me.

I'm afraid genetic engineering can't give you wings at this stage...have you considered hanggliding? It's IMO the closest man can come to flying like a bird. :)

I want to visit every country in the world that I possibly can.

I'd like to finish this damn novel I'm working on.

I want to be able to play every prelude and fugue in Bach's Well-Tempered Klavier. So far--8 down, 30 or so to go.

I'd like to learn to fiddle.

I'd like to finally finish reading all the books of the Order of the Dark Flames in my lifetime.

I want to learn to play golf for some reason.

I'd like to be a better salsa dancer.

Sky diving is on the near horizon. However thats more falling than flying.

Mind you those wings will make for an interesting conversation at parties. :D

What about paragliding? It's like falling very slowly :D

I'm sure you'd look great in wings, trouble is that you can't grow them, and transplants would be rejected by your body. Hm...cultivating stem cells into wings, perhaps? I foresee some slight technical problems, though...

Well if I ever become a billionaire from now on to my death. And you see a news report about a guy trying to get wings. It'll be me. ;)

However paragliding seems a good idea, that is until I get behind the controls of a multi-million dollar fighter jet.

*The Horror!!! they all yell* :p :D

LOL, I'll remember that when I see the headlines of some lunatic with delusions about wings :D ;)

Paragliding is a very nice sport, it's very easy to learn (the easiest of all flying sports I've tried) and also the least expensive. *sigh* I wish I had time to take mine and go away somewhere hilly - I always go away when I want to fly because it's very flat around here.

More things I'd like to do during my lifetime:

- Learn samba and Argentinian tango
- See an Emerald boa while hiking in the Papua New Guinea rainforest
- Publish in both Nature and Science
- Meet a group of manta rays
- Learn to surf
- See the needle cliffs in the middle of Sahara

Oh yes laugh now.

*Soon they'll envy me...*

Learn samba? That won't be too hard, there should be a few dance classes near you.

I guess the surfing depends on your location. Its easier than it seems. ;)

I've met (ie, swam with) a few mantra rays, however it wasn't exactly in the wild.
