I havn't read the article yet, but Kazaa is a file sharing program- like morpheus (if that helps you) that alowes people to download and upload any music, video, image, document or software that anyoe else has.

Kazaa is a peer to peer file sharing system. It allows people to search for MP3's, files and pretty much anything that you want.

@ Gaxx, whats the problem? I can't find what you mean...

Basically brilliant is using your comp and taking up space and memory, without paying or compensating you.
And without your permission, as well as doing it all the time.

Solution

Edited out.

Check out their website. Not only do they have a completely clean version of Kazaa, they have some nice info on blocking ads from getting to your computer w/o any software.

Re: Solution

I am going to take off that link, anyone who want's to find Kaaza can do so on there own backs, it isn't exactly legal and with the current arguments over it's use i don't think it is appropriate, any complaints take them to PM

It just goes to show you how many people are willing to download something without checking on what they're installing on their machines. One of the accompanying articles said that in one week Kazaa was downloaded 2.6 million times.

Of course, I'm guilty of this too; I download stuff all the time without thinking that someone may be placing malicious code buried in with what I really want. For instance, I have recently downloaded and installed The Darkest Day from TeamBG and I have no idea, nor any assurances, that they did not put some sort of spyware or a trojan horse virus in with their BG2 MOD.

Now, we don't even have to download something to have someone spying on us without our knowledge and with our consent. WindowsXP has loads of spyware built into it; of course, Microsoft says they'll never use it, but why have the capability of collecting personal information if it's not going to be used?

Creative did the same with a program called Newsupd, it would periodically cause everyone's machines to crash but it apparently did nothing, still no one trusts it, everyone just msconfigs it off the startup list. I have to admit i was suspicious.

I admit I've got it downloaded and I used it, but it kept crashing. Once I read about this stuff it was gone from the system, even the registry had it coming! :D :D

Alright, I won't complain. I don't feel like getting into the whole legal vs illegal debate again.

Just, for those using file sharing programs, know that you do not have to subject yourself to all that spyware, adware, control(!!!), etc...

Well, now Kazaa is saying that they have no spyware (completely untrue, as BOTH of their third-party ad programs are technically spyware), and their third-party ad programs have a "privicy statement", which no-one really believes.

Brilliant got a million people angry overnight.

Problem with this is, KaZaA requires the adware programs to run, so a program like AD-AWARE is useless...

But, if anyone wants to keep Kazaa, but eliminate the ads/spyware, e-mail me for more info.
