Worst you have ever been sick.

Post by AbysmalNature »

It appears that AbysmalNature has a cold, a head cold unfortunately, never had one before, and apart from the occasional ear infection(not nice), I have never had any other afflication. So anyway what is the worst you have ever gotten sick, not a nice topic but with this bloody virus attacking my brain it is about the only topic I can think of, be over with it in a day, in the mean time, excuse any of my mad mumblings, and perhaps even un AN like fuzziness of character, of course if it is my normal mumblings well then alrighty then.

Think it might be that I have gotten slightly more social and so am perhaps picking up more deseases, which is why for the first time in my life I have a head cold, whereas before I never got any more then the sniffles, now I am coughing, and my throat is very sore, so again excuse any surliness on my part while I try and kill this bloody parasite.

Night everybody, got a paper I have to write tomorrow, a sculpture I have to finish, a chemistry test I have to take, and a environmental philoshie course I am just not willing to take right now.
I care not for endings or beginnings, but for the eternal and infinite spaces of the universe, and for the endless exploration of eternity, and mysteries which I will find plumbing the infinite depths.

"Do not turn inward to find peace and wisdom, turn outward instead to find liberation from the narrow boundaries of self", quote from Gary Paul Nabhan, paraphrased of course

"When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong" quote from Arthur C. Clarke, thought it was interesting.

Weasel is right, soup is good when you are ill, since the body needs energy to fight the cold, but at the same time it shouldn't have to waste energy on digesting heavy food. Also, drink a lot and make sure you get enough Vitamin C.

I'm very seldom ill, but the worst I've been so far was probably when I got mykolepsia (a virus causing tubercolosis-like infection in the respiratory tract) and pneumonia as a teenager. I coughed up so much blood so I felt like being in a bad horror-movie

Steam is very good for colds- it empties the sinuses, so you can breathe clearly for a while. Take a hot shower, if you don't have a vaporiser.

I came down with a virus five days before my final French exam, and French was by far my worst subject. I did recover before the exam, but I was left with only two days to study for it. For three days I was vomiting so hard I had vomit coming out of my nostrils. It was really disgusting, because every time I would breathe in I'd get that awful just thrown up smell all over again. While I have been sicker than that, it was by far the most unpleasant illness I've had so far.

Bah, my 'rents tried to tell me the same thing, but I don't believe it. Even if it's true for others, it isn't true for me. In fact, I have to be careful to not get the water too hot in the shower in order to limit the steam. If there's too much steam in the air, like from a hot shower, my lungs start to feel like there's liquid in them, making me cough. If I stay in the steamy area too long, I throw up.

As for illness, I can only think of two that were really bad. Christmas of '99, I had Bronchitis from going on a Christmas Carolling Hayride late at night. I wore my usual outfit and no coat. The tempature got down below freezing. Not once did I feel like I was cold, but then later that night after I got home, my body felt chilled. I would be shivering and feel extremely cold, while at the same time, the air around me would feel very hot. Then, a few hours later, my body felt extremely hot, while the air around me felt very cold.

The other was 2-3 years prior when I was in 7th grade. For most of my life, I've had a problem with getting ear infections almost everytime I went swimming. Well, this one ear infection was the worst. It got so bad that it felt like I had a big lump of lead in my ear. It was also extremely painful. There was one time when I was asleep, during the day. I woke up in extreme pain, screaming and yelling, even hallucinating somewhat(which is why I tell the story as my parents know it happening, only from my own perspective, because I can't trust everything I specifically remember happening at this point). My parents had to come in and restrain me because of it, holding me down until I fell asleep again.

I just remembered one other thing. When I was in fourth grade, I suffered from Chronic Tonsilitis. I would get it, literally, every other week. I'd get it one week, take medicince causing it to go away from a week, then get it again the next week, and so on. I eventually got rid of the Chronic Tonsilitis by taking Echenacea(maximum dosage) for quite a while.

Out of those three things, I'd have to say that the ear infection was probably the worst. :(

Get well soon AN

I am rarely ill, but I did manage to contract pulmonary tuberculosis three years ago. Though there were evenings I felt run down, and the sporadic chest pain *ow!*, I didn't actually realise how ill I had become until I started to get better... :) TB is a slow growing illness, the decline is gradual enough that it can be difficult to spot until you are showing a number of symptoms.

If it pathogenically caused, then the worst that I had was Yellow Fever (or Dengue Fever). This was back in 1997. Two of my brothers and I had the Fever at the same time. The two of them were taken to the ICU because of the alarmingly low platelet count. I stayed in a private room. Within a few days my brothers left the ICU and were transferred to my room.

It was kinda funny coz we somehow became popular among the nurses ;) and were then called the Dengue Brothers. :D

But man, having that fever was no fun. My BRAIN felt so hot like it was going to explode, and I was very dehydrated. I had never felt restless before. :(

However up to now, I'm still suffering from cluster migraines (not related with Yellow Fever) and its so darn painful like my head is about to be split into two. I ended up crying with one eye (right) and the right side of my face is like stuck into a permanent grimace.

All my sicknesses pale in comparisons to those already spoken above.

I got a terrible migraine a few years ago. Not very impressive is it. ;)

I've hurt myself a lot of times. But I guess I have a rigid immune system. :D

Plus I can't remember back, ever having to go to the ER at hospital for being sick.

@Tammy: What kind of migraine have you got? Mine is classified as cluster migraine according to my neurologist. Something like, when it rains, it POURS. :(

It's always the right side of my head that gets painful. More often occurred on a particular time of the day. Was forced to file an LOA for a semester cause I ended up at that time not being able to go to class.

You got yours classified? Well it rarely happens, which is a good thing. Like yours it's on the right side, but it's probably regarded as a mild form. Not like your cluster form, but I can imagine what that would feel like. :(

...with the occurences and the intensity of the pain (they could really SEE that I was in great pain) so they sent me to this neurologist. I had to have an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imagery) which showed my brain in different cross-sections and lateral "cuts." Just to make sure that there is nothing serious to be worried about. Saw my brain. Pretty cool, if I may say so myself. I think CE knows more on MRI. It's somehow more improved than Catscan?

Where to start!

When i was 5 i managed to contract a condition which meant i could not walk and my entire lower half of my body was bruised, Go Me!!!! That cleared up after about 5 weeks IIRC. That is about the worst.
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

Oh it is more than a little difficult to spell :o

I believe it can be referred to as Rheumatic Fever, but the full name sounds much more impressive ;)

This is true, except that steam doesn't empty the sinuses--it expands them, and loosens the mucus membrane. Steam, usually with eucalyptus or cedarwood oil, was also a common treatment for asthma through the centuries. For example, Vivaldi used to treat his asthma in this fashion. So did the turn of the century composer William Hurlstone. Of course, they both died of asthma in any case, but the treatment did offer some relaxation of the symptoms for years (many in Vivaldi's case, very few in Hurlstone's).
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
