I like red wines - unfortunally I*ve started to aquire a taste for these, and especially Medoc and Melot from France and Spain :)

I like beer and usually drinks this if acces to other alcoholic beverages are either limited via surply or prices :D

I like spirites - and my favorete is proberly Vodka, and I don't mind drinking the Currant version of it. Also drink (well have quite a fair amout) Tequila, and generally like mixing drinks for people (and have gotten quite good at it) - so I try a lot of different drinks :D

Toohey's Old (Dark Lager), or Guiness, or Hahn light ice

Jack Daniels

Cabernet Sauvingon (now called other things because the French complained) from the Hunter Valley.

When on a bender - Triple Tequila and Tonic (TNT).

2 litre unmarked whiskey!!!

The Thai distillers of 'Mekong whiskey' were having a business crisis (about ten years ago) many foriegn - not Scottish - brands (notably Suntory) of whiskey were getting good sales and reviews. Mekong had a good market exposure but everyone considered it to taste like paint stripper. They did some market research and determined to improve the taste they would have to age the product (in casks) for ten years  . The CEO wanted to know what the hell they were supposed to do for ten years!

I've always been of the opinion that while you certainly CAN distinquish between whiskey's by taste that it was similar to being able to distinquish between leaded and unleaded petrol by taste. Try this simple experiment, give your (or a friend/relative's)four year old a small shot of 25 year old single malt, and then give them a small shot of 2 litre unmarked whiskey. Bet they say yuck and spit it out - twice. - Curdis !

Don't like beer or wine. Like spirits (not whisky though) nad liqueurs, particularly in c0cktails. And girly bottled drinks like Smirnoff Ice. ;)

OMG, you mean people actually drink that stuff? :D

not with michael owen. Is that guy old enough to drink yet and this year, he'll be participating in his second world cup.[/b]
LOL, older than he looks - I think he's 22 ;)

My secret to drinking tequila without losing consciousness: never ever drink a whole shot at once. I drink about a third of it at a time, and never have more than 2 shots.
And let's face it, who needs more than two shots? ;) I don't mind tequila, but I'm not good at downing shots of anything (it usually directly precedes me running to the bathroom and throwing up :o ), but a tequila sunrise is a wonderful thing... :D

@ysh: Is this law strictly enforced ? I remember while I was in London seeing a lot of young people in the Pubs at night- and they definitely didn't look 18 in some cases.[/b]
Posted by Ysh:
@Beldin - not as strict as perhaps it ought to be...though pubs that are known haunts for underaged drinkers are regularly visited by police
In my experience, it's barely enforced at all. If you look 18, you probably won't be IDed - and most people age 16+ can get away with it (especially girls). You're allowed in pubs (in the company of adults, and not drinking alcohol) from age 14... though increasingly pubs seem to be becoming 18+ only. The tendency seems to be, if a pub/club gets in trouble for serving underage drinkers, they tighten up on their policy for a couple of months, then slacken off again. I know a club that keeps getting busted for underage drinking, and keeps changing hands and reopening with a different name and a bit of a makeover... but the clientele remains the same, it caters for the kids at the local 6th form college (16-18 year olds).

I think 18 is a reasonable age to be allowed to drink, it's the legislation in this country on opening hours that is really outdated... Even at weekends, everywhere closes at 2am (except maybe in the big cities like London - but I'm not familiar with them). That's when the party should just be getting started!!

OK - so I guess it's my turn now.... ;)

For the taste I'm partial to Single Islay Malts like Laphroaig, Talisker, Lagavulin and the likes..

For getting sincerely drunk -> ****tails (mixed by my humble self) - mostly with Rum (Havanna Club 3yrs, 5yrs, and 7yrs., Appleton Estate, but NEVER EVER Bacardi...*yuck* )

Sometimes I drink wine to my dinner, but thats only to be expected since I'm liveing in a "wine-growing area".

So much to drink, and so little time.... :D *sighs*

I also like the occasional burning (and inhaling :D ) of some vegetative matter in a hookah (or "bong" as some people call it) but that's becoming less and less as I grow older....donno why though, because Grass doesn't cause me a headache like some of the beverages do... ;)

So - Cheers !

I don't tend to drink alcohol with meals, but that's because my beverages of preferences don't really go well with meals. ;)

Make mine beer.

Back in the Phils, it's San Miguel Beer for me. The best beer in my country. I believe that there is also a brewery in Spain and most Europeans who drink San Mig would often think that it's Spanish beer, which certainly is not. ;)

Well due to curiosity (thanks, Sleepy! :D ), I tried Guiness(sp?) and I like it! :) even if it's quite expensive. :(

Otherwise, make mine Heineken instead (Yes, McBane, I was drooling with envy when I saw your pic :( ).
Incidentally, I've also taken into liking, this concoction of Thai whiskey mixed with Red Bull Energy Drink. A whopping combo of an upper and downer. :p Kicks you like a Bull... ;)

LOL! :D I was asked for ID in Sainsburys when trying to buy a single can of Guinness for a stout casserole...I was 28, and as it turned out eventually - the cashier was too young to serve me anyway! :D Needless to say - he was rather embarrassed.....

@Dottie and Nippy - LOL! :D His response to my stunned reply was "now I look at you properly, I realise this...I am sorry" :D I was standing there in full bikers gear and carrying keys - there was a good chance I was old enough to buy...

@Ysh: like i said... ;)

I remeber a similar experiance when i was at family gathering party. This particular one was rather big, so there was alot of distant relatives I had never met before. Anyway, A rather old woman came up and said hallo to my mother, after chating for awhile about nothing she gestured towards my father (50 years old) and said "And this is your son i presume." I was laughing my but of. :D

@Ysh you only have to be 16 to ride a motorbike, don't you? :D I wouldn't have a problem with being ID-ed (if it ever happened :p ), simply because I've worked in a shop and it's annoying when people make a fuss about it - most people over 18 can prove it, by my experience it's usually the under-18s who make big thing about it ;)

If you ment lemon, not lemonade, then that's a drink known as "Caipirosca". And instead of lemon, you really should use lime.

How to make a Caipirosca

It goes like this: put some vodka (4 cl) and sugar (2 teaspoons) in a glass. Squeeze the juice from half a lime in it and fill the glass with crushed ice. Stir well. It's easy to make (you can teach it to your local bartenders, last time I introduced this to Icelandic bars - let the word spread!!!) and it tastes really really good. But word of advice, it's easy to get totally wasted with these, as they are pure liquer, even thought they don't taste like it. So don't drink 'em too fast. I warmly recommend it. And the vodka brand should be Finlandia, of course :p

Other than caipirosca's I enjoy lager beer (any european will do), red wine (with steak) and Scotch whiskey.

When you get to my age you really start to enjoy from simple pleasures, such as a glass of good whiskey after work ;)
