Serious Drinking

Post by Beldin »

Just because I'm bored on the job:

WHAT is your prefered beverage ? Beer, wine, shine ?

NO virtual drinks please !

I just want to see if there's a pattern of drinking habits connected with age/sex/location/RPGing....

So c'mon - amuse me by not spamming TO much... ;)

Cheers, (Or whatever you say when you're up to serious drinking. )

Beldin.

Unless of course it's really REALLY necessary for your mental health. ;) - but in that case I'll want to know what kind of mental illness produces Spam/Comm/Slurr or whatever you choose to call it.

Beer mostly, or Vodka.

I generally drink Harp, Fosters, or Red Stripe. I really like Old Speckled Hen, but it is sooo expensive over here.

I like to drink a lot of U.K. beers. New Castle, Harp, Bass, Guiness, Boddingtons, Murphy's. I'm also a fan of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Labatt Blue.

I also enjoy top shelf vodka's: Grey Goose, Ketel One, Belvedere, Thor's Hammer; all of which of served over ice, maybe with a little club soda. Cape Codders in the summer and in Vegas.

Boodles and Beefeater tonics in the summer with big wedges of lime.

Appleton Estates Rum has been the liquor of choice this winter.

I enjoy a glass of Oban or Edradour before dinner.

I never drink during dinner. It just doesn't suit my palette, imagine that all of you. :D . I tend to stay away from Appertifs as well, no B&B's, Ouzo's, etc...

Good burboun does well with pepsi, 7up, ginger all, or a manhattan. Makers Mark, Woodford Estates, and Jim Beam Black Label are all quite tasty.

Good Tequila, don't remember much after that though.

I usually find a little shine when I go to visit my parents in Kentucky.

I detest wine and champagne and will only drink them if I'm being paid (sometimes the escort service can be a real pain in the ass ;) :p

I don't know if there is a pattern to be found here beldin, I like a lot of different stuff.

My personal preference is ale or stout; Murphy's or Guinness, a local microbrew that has a good oatmeal stout or old peculiar. Sometimes a Corona with lime.
I also like a glass of wine now and then with dinner. A good margarita is also a fine beverage :D
Very rarely a sweet alcohol like Baileys or Amaretto.

Well, first off, I'm not old enough to drink. What I do know I like is champagne(Sp?). I also tried some Italian Riesling(sp?) the other day. It was okay, but not sweet enough. I look forward to trying some German Riesling(sp?), which my dad says is much sweeter.

Now, whether I drink or not actually has no bearing on what my preferred beverage is. My preferred beverage is Dr. Pepper, and yes, I can get drunk drinking Dr. Pepper. :D

I just want to contradict the classic clichès of "German drink beer, Britains drink Whisky, Americans like Bourbon"....and so on ...ad infinitum...

BTW - I think y'all know this old classic, but that doesn't keep me from writing it: :D

I am a beer drinker, though I am partial to a glass of red wine, or a neat malt or ten from time to time ;)

THAT one opens another discussion here ->

What's the legal age for drinking in your respective countries and what are the pros and cons for prohibition if you're under this age ?
Post awayyyyyyyy !

In the UK the age you can legally buy and drink alcohol (in public) is 18. Anyone caught selling to, (or buying for) someone under the age of 18 faces a 1000 pound fine...and could lose their licence to sell alcohol...

Well Beldin, here in the states, the age is 21, unless you're in wisconsin (where I lived from the ages of 15-22) and the criteria is as follows from an underage perspective

If you can see over the bar, you get served.
If you have legal tender, you get served.
If you parents are somewhere relatively nearby, you get served.
If you know someone old enough (21) to drink, you get served.
If you have a note from your parents, you get served.
If there is a Green Bay Packer fan in the bar, you get served.

Welcome to the alcohol consumption capital of the U.S. :) Kentucky is a close second because BS is there. Illinois could be up there, however, they all invade Wisconsin to drink. Alas, I digress and this might not make a hell of a lot of sense to most of you, however, it wouldn't be the first time, would it. ;)

@ysh: Is this law strictly enforced ? I remember while I was in London seeing a lot of young people in the Pubs at night- and they definitely didn't look 18 in some cases.

@Ned - LMAO! :D

@Beldin - not as strict as perhaps it ought to be...though pubs that are known haunts for underaged drinkers are regularly visited by police :)

Eat the Worm

Beer: Harp, Spaten, Budweiser (I have to admit), Pacifico, Bohemia

Tequila: El Tesoro is the best--one of the only tequila's still made the original way. They take the agave pinas and put them in an adobe or stone house. They seal the doors with mud, and inject steam for 24 hours to slowly cook them. All the large companies like Cuervo use modern distilleries, and I suspect that they use agave pinas that have not been aged enough. The agave pina should be around 15 years old. In Mexico, I'm able to get Mescal that is made the old way--they cook the agave pinas on wood coals--hence the smoky flavor of Mescal. My secret to drinking tequila without losing consciousness: never ever drink a whole shot at once. I drink about a third of it at a time, and never have more than 2 shots.

Vodka: Absolut, Wyborowa. Almost always with cranberry.
