please help: graphic card:only grey scales on TV

Post by Mysteria »

The problem is this:

I connected my graphic card (3D prophet III) to a TV set via a VHS cable and the display on the TV is only in grays.

Any idea why? How can I change that?

I would assume that one has to install some software to run it on a TV, or at least modulate the refresh rate. Best i can think of at the moment.

Agreement with Sleep. A tv monitor is very different from a computer monitor in certain respects, including the use of color. I wish I could help beyond that, but my knowledge is very limited in this field. :(

You also might want to see if there are some newer video card drivers from the manufacturer available or if their support people have seen before and list it as a "known issue".

.. strange but it works

Thanks for the input, I finally solved my problem.

I told my comp that I used a composite cable, even though I use a VHS cable ... and it worked! :)

Don't ask me why, it's really weird.

What is the quality like? Have you had to alter the refresh?

No, I didn't alter the refresh rate and the quality is just fine - don't ask me how or why, sometimes miracles do happen :)

(My computer might have altered it automatically though - he altered the resolution down to 800X600 automatically)

Anyway, my problem wasn't with the quality of the image, it was just fine before, but I just didn't get any colour.
