Gimme some CRPG man!

Post by Ubik »

OK, I could've posted this thread anywhere on BG forum, but I wanted to say "hi" to my old buddies and... errr... what's the female for "buddy"? Lass? Chick? Babe? :D

First of all HI! I hope all of you buggers are still alive and well. I am sure you are - since you keep on posting here. Hey, look, even Romance 101 for Brink is up again... what is this, Revenge of the Zombies? :D

Ok, on with my question.

I just bought myself a new comp (actually I bought the pieces and assembled it myself) and it's a pretty fast sob. Athlon XP 1800+ 256 RAM, a 40MB ATA 133 HDD, a GeForce 2 (not MX) video card and lots of goodies - it took me several days to get it together, up and running.

I haven't bought any game the last couple of months (save Civ3) due to little free time, but now things are getting back to normal and I think I'd like to try a good RPG.

So, first thing to get: The Darkest Day expansion for BG2 (damned... no TOB support yet?) and then... what? What RPG have you (if) played lately?

Please, NO MMPRPG - I am not playing online, my connection is kinda slow and our local phone company bites when it comes to time spend on the net - they charge too much. Not to mention that my spouse shall kick the heck out of me if I start that addictive trend :D

Hiya Ubik :) .What's up? :D

I've just bought(using this term loosely here) myself a copy of Icewind Dale(and installed it along with both the expansions, although downloading the ToTL expansion really tested my patience  ).Anyway, that's what's currently occupying most of my playing time nowadays, if that's what you're asking :)

There have been very few recently, i think everyone is waiting for NwN at the moment. There have been 2 RPG's that i read something about, one is called Gorusal and the other is called Gothic they seemed to have decent enough reviews, i can't think of anything else at the moment.

Before Christmas there was Pool of Radience (which was hugely bugged and can wreck your machine) and Arcanum Check out the forum on GB for that one ;)

Messr. Ubik. What a welcome aura of culture and class you bring to the forum. We had assumed your significant other had found your collection of ‘provocative female images’ and beaten both you and your computer into shapeless piles of jelly.

If you haven’t played it, Planescape Torment is a CRPG on par with BGII, yet it is different enough to really stand on it’s own.

Hi Brinky boy! I see you are in need for some more free romance advice, huh? Well, this time you should know that following Wankerly's advice=suicide :D
I've played IWD and the expansions too... didn't like it much. No inspiring story, no plot twist, just hack the bloody monsters. Boring.

MrSleep
Pervert? Moi? Poor little Ubik? Nah... btw I've just seen American Beauty for the 3rd time and I think I know what I am going to do at my early 40s... save the wanking :D
NWN is a no-no for me - MMRPG. Gothic maybe I try out... I've heard of the bugg-iness PoR and I think I'll pass (it's dungeon crawling anyway).

Wankerly! You still here too? How is life? Still fiddling with your right hand?
PT I have played a long time ago. Brilliant, fascinating story. I liked it.

I think I'll get Wizardry 8... just read a review and it looks quite promising.

Arcanum was okay. Non-linear plot, but no interesting interaction with NPC's.

Still love Fallout I & II.

That is a great movie, i really like it :) I don't remember the love boat in American Beauty, how could you go without that?

NwN will have single player apparently :)

Actually, it was Melosh Tar at the point of a certain dagger... no need to wake old grief, we got new to worry us :D

Since you mentioned sonny... where is he? Still a paramedic or something?

And... Le Grunt, the filthy shmoocher... where is that marine-loving git?

Mr Sleep

Well... no love boat, but still a lovely blond teenager - apparently the philosopher's stone for every man in his mid-40s. At least the way I predict myself in a decade or so :D

@UBik-Unfortunately, I am no longer capable of answering where those two are, since I myself don't frequent this place as much as I'd used to(which is why I'm retiring most of my 'posts' soon :) ) :( .

Grunty is some sort of moderator on one of the forums. He must have had some pretty incriminating photos of Uncle Satan is my hypothesis.

We don’t speak of Meatloaf-tar. File him under the ‘or something’ category you mentioned.

BTW you know my right hand is my mouse hand. *sheesh*

Gwalch: Well it is a +5 weapon of sorts. I made sure to get quite a few two-handed weapon proficiencies…

Viv: I was with you for the first 4 words or so, then you lost me with all the violent imagery. Teeth in particular have no place in such games. Image

Yes, Waverly, that is some Rod of Lordly Might you've got there.
Or in evolutionary terms, you are definitely a tool-user. :p :D

I don't mean to 'get off' the subject of discussing waverly's anatomy but I believe Ubik was looking for CRPG's and 'Yank Wank' is definitely an action vid.

Ubik,

If you haven't played arcanum yet, I'd recommend it. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a few more months.
