Stats

Post by Rob-hin »

Since my stats aren't correct apperantly, I'll have to do some changing.

How important is intelligence for a fighter? I hate spells like charm and confusion so I want to avoid that as mutch as possible, and this is (as far as I know) controlled by int.

These are my old stats: New: (?)

Strength: 14 > 15
Dexterity: 15 > 14
Constitution: 16 > 15
Intelligence: 12 > 12
Wisdom: 10 > 10
Charisma: 8 > 8

I'm also thinking about 1 less on str or con and 2 more for int for the saving vs spells but I don't want to be a wimpy fighter.

Your thoughts please? :)

Bio comming up BTW, it's in my head...now to get it on paper.

Well, in third edition, there are only 3 saves...will (wisdom), fortitude (consitution), and reflex (dexterity).

To save against charm, you would either make a will save, since the spell has a dominating effect, or you would roll a difficulty check against the caster's spell level and level of the spell.

The traditional save vs. spells and such other saves are thrown out.

The main importance of intelligence for a fighter is that some feats requirer a higher intelligence.

Like what? And does it watter what weapons I wield?

And during the game everybody recieves 5 extra points to spend right? That would mean I get an uneven number and thats not so smart...

Edit:

Strength: 14 > 14
Dexterity: 15 > 14
Constitution: 16 > 15
Intelligence: 12 > 12
Wisdom: 10 > 12 (for the exra saves)
Charisma: 8 > 8

Then finishing (with the 5 points extra):

Strength: 16
Dexterity: 16
Constitution: 16
Intelligence: 12
Wisdom: 12
Charisma: 8

This means I should use a lott of heal potions since my strength is rather low. Are those available in Argyle in good quantities? (because of the scarce magic etc.)
Perhapts a magic item to increase my strength?

I'd Also like to "update" my Ranger's stats

Strength: 13
Dexterity: 14
Constitution: 12
Intelligence: 12
Wisdom: 13
Charisma: 12

Feats that require high intelligence:
Expertise - 13+ int
Improved Disarm - 13+ int, expertise
Whirlwind Attack - 13+ int, expertise, 13+ dex, dodge, mobility, base attack bonus +4 or higher, spring attack.

Dont bother the uneven number thing... you are not likely to reach level 20 anyway :p :D

Ohh and may i advise you to raise your charisma abit? If you ever plan to be a leader, you'll need it.
Maybe change constitution to 14 and charisma to 10? just a suggestion.

Remember - it is hard to plan what feats to choose from when we don't know what feats are in the game - and of course the requierment for these feats can be changed ingame.

For now - make characters as you'd like them to be, then when the game comes out - play test it in single player and other multiplayer games, and decide then :)

I don't care mutch for charisma, I'm not gonna be a leader. Council of war is good enough for me. ;)

My "high" constitution is what I like, I want lots of hit points. The idea is good though but it's just not for me.

Council of War are leaders, its not like the wing leader will have the ultimate power (right? ;) )

And i'd like to point out that the average charisma scores (and all other scores) for humans are 10-11.

yes, but you need not be a highly charismatic person to be on the council. wisdom is important too, as well as intelligence. It's just important that you roleplay these three stats.

It's easy to roll play strength, dexterity, and constitution since they modify all of your attack rolls and hit points.

But roleplaying charisma, wisdom, and intelligence require you to understand your characters mannerisms, understanding and such. If your character has a low charisma, he should act like it in game. Plain and simple. No winning the girls hearts with his bright smile, and no bluffing characters to his side. Charisma of 8 means your character generally finds it difficult to carry on typical bs conversation with another character, as he is shy, loses his temper, or some other personality flaw. Be sure you're not using charisma as a low score just so you can have higher scores in other areas. If your charisma is low, your character should reflect it.

I'll quit rambling.

I was just joking on the council thingy :) . But I'll think about the charisma some more.

Ps. I was planning on a character who doesn't wear a shiny armour. Well, he does but only underneath his kinda "poor" clothes. A bit like Aragorn. (I had planned this before the move and before I had read the book)

Oh, I know you were just joking. The first part of my post was more directed to Pebz.

The second portion is for everyone, as it has to do with general roleplay.

Well, my low charisma is just because of the role playing. I think it would be cool for my character be a loner when he comes to the blades.

You know, the type when I enter the inn, hanging on my staff soaking wet since its raining. A drunk messing with me. After a couple minutes of taking his rambling. I swiftly use my staff to knock him down. Only then showing my true nature, a hardened fighter. (after some adventuring :) )

Just wanted to clarify a bit more than Pebz did, so that you understand.

At 4th level, your character receives a bonus point to add to any of his stats. You continue to receive a bonus point for every four levels, meaning you have received 5 by level 20.

Pebz was right in saying that most character won't reach level 20. Really, most character might not reach level 10...it all depends on how smart they play and how hard the dms make Argyle...i think they're going to make it plenty challenging.

Hopefully if you weren't exactly for sure about this, I have cleared it up. :)

I understand the point system, but do you mean that if my character dies in Argyle I would have to make a new one? It's not possible to respawn?

The TATer's at Argyle are maintaining a permanent death policy.

No respawns are permitted.

EDIT- Clerics and druids should do the job however. ;)
