I wonder why the class Dark Elf wasn't included in the new kits in BG

Largely, I suspect, because dark elves are a sub-race of the elves, not a class in their own right. As for why they weren't included as a selectable race, I think it had something to do with game balance. 19 Dex and high innate Magic Resistance would make for ridiculously overpowered characters.

Not if the racial group was limited to only a few classes. Drow are only ever Fighers, Wizards, Thieves and Clerics, and only women are clerics. Thus you get a very limited racial group, which is further limited by gender.

Perhaps you could limit it further by saying that they loose a lot of their magic resistance in the daytime on the surface, which is true. Thus a drow character would spend most of his time walking around at night, which fits the character.

A drow character would also start with a reputation of 6, just to make it hard.

Most of that would make no sense, as you are stil raised in candlekeep no matter what race you are.

But never played them myself!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
