Artemis Entreri
Artemis Entreri
We have met Drizzt, and he is a high level ranger with some cool stuff, but what would Artemis Entreri be?
His character is that of an assassin, a master of blades who wears no armour and has plenty of thief skills. This would imply a grand mastary in the skills list, although with Drizzt as a ranger it means that he has only got two stars in his weapon slot and three in two weapon use.
I reckon he should be a Fighter/Thief, of a high level in each. The thief kits simply do not provide an good enough likeness of him in their descriptions.
His kit should be:
Long Sword +3 (although he carries a sabre, is that more of a long sword or a katana?)
Dagger +6 - For every two points of damage inflicted, one point is healed on the the person that weilds the weapon. 10 damage done, 5 points healed etc.
Perhaps some Leather Armour, purely to save his skin from time to time.

I think, like Drizzt, Cattie Brie, Wulfgar, Bruener and Regis, Entreri could not be properly adapted to any version - PnP or PC of DnD.
One of the main problems with Entreri in particular, is his cheif weapon, the dagger, does not have a real way of adapting its damage to the game. His dagger doesn't just heal and take hit points but it takes life force, meaning the second it touches you you begin to weaken, not just die after enough hits.
and I thought Drizzt and co's weapons were not correct.
I meen, in essence they are, but when I think of Aegis Fang (I won't even mention the fact that it isn't also a ranged weapon) I don't think of a lousy 2d4 + 3! I think of 3d8 + 12 with bashing percentage of 95% and save Vs. death or die!
Regis's Amulate. While reading, you don't just think of a 3rd level spell Dire charm, even though that is realy what it is, you think of a powerful domination spell that maybe works only on humanoids, but is pretty darn effective!
Cattie Brie's bow. Taulmauril's most striking part was the silver arrows, which were taken ouy entirly from the game!
and last, but not least Drizzt's swords. Even though it makes sence that they are only great because of their weilder, 1d8 + 3? thats nothing!
In short transfering the damage from book to game is simply too hard to do, especialy when thinking about Entreri, who IMO is one of the best characters in Literary history. (Right up there with Hannibal Lecter!)

Hannibal Lector cannot be compared to... bah, this is a waste of my time.
I am missing your reference. Is it that your girlfreind hates Hannibal? loves him? hates Entreri?loveshim?hates both of them? loves both of them?

Artemis is a cool dude. I suspect he'll be meeting up with old friend Drizzt in the next Salvatore book...
I senceirly hope that Salvatore doesn't write any more books concerning Drizzt and co/ Entreri. After the first 6- which were great, thay got worse. I meen some were better, some were realy good, but some were much worse and pretty bad.
I liked the first 6 books and Servent of the shard the best. The rest were not great.

Entreri is roughly a 12 lvl. fighter dualed to an assassin. his assassin level is probably 18th +
Now he wields charon's claw and the dagger. he's one tough cookie. drizzt would be in deep trouble without any intervention.

Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
I have not read his latest two, Servent of the Shard and Sea of Swords, because the The Spine of the World was so crap.
The Cleric Quintet are better books, as Salvatore states himself, but they are to full of 'nice' people, rather than the swathe of greatly evil people that Drizzt faces.
What happened in Servant of the Shard (i am presuming that the Crystal Shard is involved, and perhaps Cadderly again) and in Sea of Swords?

I understand why you didn't like Spine of the World, I was pretty disappointed. But it was necessary I suppose to flesh out the Wulfgar story...Wulfgar was originally intended to be the hero of the series, not Drizzt.
***********Book spoilers***************
Servant of the Shard is actually a pretty good book, one of the best in the series, at least since the ones about the Menzoberranzan wars.
Bregan Daerthe, fronted by Entreri and aided by the Crystal Shard (in Jarlaxle's possession) reaches for more control in Calimport. Jarlaxle, blinded by the Shard, is overextending his grasp, much to the chagrin of both his drow lieutenants and Entreri. Entreri realizes his fate his tied to Jarlaxle; if Jarlaxle falls or is removed from command, the other drow will have no use for him.
Entreri kidnaps/rescues Jarlaxle and the Shard just as Rai-guy, Jarlaxle's cleric/wizard lieutenant, makes his power play. They bring the Shard to Spirit Soaring, and with the "aid" of Cadderly, Danica and crew, they manage to destroy the Shard.
Jarlaxle forsakes Bregan Daerthe and decides to find his fortune on the surface, with new best friend Entreri. Jarlaxle, in order to remain on the surface, masquerades as Drizzt. The biggest revelation is that Entreri realizes the lie of his life, that his existence is empty.
Sea of Swords is about the redemption of Wulfgar, the reunion of the companions of the Hall, the retrieval of Aegis-fang, as well as the obsession of a surface elf to destroy Drizzt.
