Mind Shield from the Deck

I drew 'Emperor' while playing with the cambion and got a mind shield. Cool, I thought. What it seems to do, however, is not so nice. Every time someone charms me I fail my save and when soloing, that's game over. Tahazzar's succubus has charmed me ~20 times a row (first death in ToB). I noted that when I put a legitimate mind shield on (in my case, shield of harmony), I am allowed a save, but am able to fail it.

The strategy guide says that the 'mind opener' is permanent. Is there any way to get rid of it? My last save without the shield is in hell. That's about a day of playing.

It's not permament, it only lasts a week. And yes, it's rubbish.

Do any of you know what you possibly can get from the Chambion? What's best?
