Kevin, help!! Bug with book of infinite spells....

Post by UserUnfriendly »

Have soa , then installed tob, installed the bioware full eng patch, then installed latest version of your patch, I think 1.02.

Have noticed, so far 1 app crash in windows, never happend again, and in the buried alive quest, I chased catmi into the room in the bridge district and I got a graphic of the three kidnappers and the room, but all the controls went away. I used alt f4 to close, and it never happend again, as long as I killed catmi before he can go into the room.

now in brynlaw, and I got the book of infinite spells, and when i right click in the quick item slot to allow it to change from cast the spell to turn page, and use it to turn the page, it spawns another copy! one copy has turned the page and the other copy is the same original spell.

If I try again with a copy it spawns another one. I lost the nerve to try spawning more...

the only editing I've done is to add the bonus shop keepers and removed wa2robe.itm file and clck26.itm file from the override directory, and I gave my pc, a sorc about 9 spells per level up to level nine, and about 12 spells in level nine.

is this something to worry about? I am more interested in game stability rather than keeping the book, which is a rather dull item anyway. if you say this is nothing to worry about I shall ditch this buggy book...

thanks, just let me know... and if you want a emialed copy of a saved game let me know...

I've just did a quick test with the Book and the Buried Alive thing. Everything worked properly. I have SoA, SoA patch, ToB, ToB patch and Fix pack 1.12 installed

There isn't much direct help that I can give, but if you want to, you can download Infinity Explorer and have a look at the files and tell me what you see. Since to work out what is wrong, I need to look at the files itself, but I can't look at your version of the files.

The book should destroy itself when you turn the page. Run Infinity Explorer (loading BG2) and look in the item section for misc3a (there should be misc3a1 - misc3a9 as well). Look at the Ability tab and look at Ability 2, there should be a Destroy_Item effect for each of the items (except misc3a9). This shouldn't cause any problem with the game though, since it seems to only be a problem with the item itself.

Don't know about the Buried Alive quest thing, when you enter the building, a dialogue is supposed to start. You can also have a look at the script and tell me what you see (again with Infinity Explorer). Scripts, Scripts.bif and look at AR0507.

Whew, thanks sabre, once again you have helped immensely, if its just scripting errors and itm file problems and wont effect my game, thats all i was worried about. Of course, i was worried there might be a bug others have gotten, so thats why I was posting it.

if you are interested I can look in the infinity explorer, but I really value your opinion on this, and since in your opinion this will not effect game play I simply wont worry about it and drop the stinking item.

I mean its a complex item with many properties and so I don't feel at all like keeping it anyway if its buggy...

as for the buried alive quest, I have seen dialog errors before and this was one of them, and I don't feel like trying to reproduce the error unless other people have stated they are getting this too....

No problems, as far as I know, these problems will not effect your game. But I can't really be sure, since there are many differences with different version of the game. I would advise that you check the files to see if the problems are with them or not - just in case.

Within the item files you should see a CAST_SPELL effect for the first ability and there should be the following in Ability 2:
- DESTROY_ITEM
- 10 x CREATE_ITEM (with different % for each)
- Make Sound
It should be the same for all the items, except for misc3a9, which only have 1 ability. DESTROY_ITEM should have the item's name as ResRef and the CREATE_ITEM should have all the other item codes.

For the script, you should see:
IF
Global("AmsiHouse","GLOBAL",3)
!Dead("amsi")
THEN
RESPONSE #100
ClearAllActions()
StartCutSceneMode()
ActionOverride("amsi",StartDialogueNoSet(Player1))
END

It's up to you if you want to check them or not, there shouldn't be any problems with the game other than the book not destroying itself, but you never know.
