Wondering what u think of my naga staff?

Post by Musashi Miyamoto »

The staff i'm working on is called Naga staff, haven't finished up on the lore yet nor the effects cause i'm not quite sure how to do some of the effects.

Basicaly this is an normal staff but on one end is an club like thing, its an status (spell) of an naga on one end, then about 3/4 the way it starts to narrow into an extremely thin, and extremely strong, also very sharp blade.

Anyway i'm wondeirng how to do some of the effects, the naga staff has two damage type, bludgoning from the club end, and slashing/pierceing from the bladed end. How would i do this in the game, i'm thinking of just go base, being bludgoning, then add like +10 slashing, and or +10 pierceing damage.

Now i'm wondering if it would be too powerful to have say 10%-25% chance of an vorpal hit, the reason is cause the blade is extremely thin and sharp.

You are creating a staff which would be as damaging as the Staff of the Ram AND would have vorpal effects? Sounds overpowered to me

Why not have 99% vorpal chance (no save) and 30 level drains on each hit, +draining 18 intelligence per hit too! :p
I wager the turnip market is making a killing today!

In one of ursela leguins books about earth sea, I think it was in a short collection set, a evil mage used a iron staff that was actually a sword as a mage staff...too big to whack people as a sword, and no point in whacking people as a staff....just too heavy to be used as either...
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

At the Other Info screen of Item Maker, after you have set the damages for the Crushing part of the item. Add a new Item Effects, choose "Fix/Random Damage" and then set the following:
- Timing Mode: Permanent
- Effect Time: 0
- Probability: 0, 100
- Target: Pre-Target

Leave everything else as it is, if you want a random amount of damage - for example 1D10 - then put this into the Die Throw part; fix amount is set by the Fixed Damage box in Paramaters. Now click on the "Click to edit Paramaters" button and set the type of damage you want - the text box gives you all of the codes needed for different damage type.

Nope :P I'm trying to make this a balanced item, it will probably have the base staff damage in addition of a couple point of slashing, or maybe half of the base staff damage, which would be bludgoning, and the other half being slashing damage.

What i'm realy wondering about is the vorpal effect i would realy like to use it but if its still to overpowered what could i do to rebalanace the staff.

oh yeah thanks sabre that helped

Here's the description of the staff, in case you guys are wondering, and i got to rewrite it so it will fit with the syle of writting that bgII uses on item. Its little funny the writting i mean litle messyed up but its the easest way for me to describe it right now. I got the idea personaly from a book, a good book imho. anyway here's the description or atleast the rought draft.

The man was holding a staff that appeared to be an perfectly smooth black wood, it was over 6 feet long. Something on the tip of the staff reflecting light, almost blinding ragnarok. It was an intricately carved ornament, a 7 headed snake. The other end of the staff ended in a spear head that also shone in the sun light.

The 7 headed snake were called Naga By the women who accomended him. It is scared to her.

Lailkoen held up the staff then tossed it toward ragnarok, and he was suprised but caught it withy one hand, it was deceptively light, only a pound or less, The shaft wasn not wood but a material he had never felt before, but he could sense it was very strong.

Then he held the spear head in front of his face, the head was over a foot long from the tip to the base, and the base spread to a width of 8 inches. Ragnarok reached to test the edge with a finger, Lailok hissed a warning, don't tounch it other wise it will slice your finger , or arm, or leg or even neck off, and it will hit the in front of you and you wouldn't know untill you SEE it on the ground.

Ragnarok pulled back his hand and turn the spear side way, and looked at the blade, it was almost invisiably thin and very very sharp, he drouped it and took his war hammer and smashed it into the spear head, Lailoken laughed you will not be able to even dent or strach the staff at all i have wielded the most powerful magic in an attept to destroy it, to see if it was destroyable and it defyed even my mightest magic.

Ragnarok fliped it over and looked at the carved figure, it was an 7 headed snake, called the naga, he rember hearing it from his mother, it was a creature called a hydra.

The spear head and the carved figure shone brillantly in the sun and he could tell that it wasn't quite silver , not quite gold, not quite anything.

End Description

as you can tell its kind of badly worded but i'm going to rewrite it some time, anyway that's where i got the idea of the vorpal blade from cause well check the description.

Secondly i'm working on creating a custom picture and icon for the staff itself, and i'm wondering how i could convert let's say a bmp or something into BAM which is picture file for BG II right?? and what is the requirement on size and color

As to the damage thing, Id make it deal
1d8+X bludgeoning + 1d6 piercing. With say a 10% chance at vorpal.
I liked the part of how the women who acomended believed it to be scared to her
;) :D :D
Im such a Jerk sometimes, Nothing personal
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

LOL! that description got ton of typo but i was typing fast :)

I can draw most of the staff on my own but i got no clue how to draw the naga / hydra

wonders if any one got any good picture of a hydra aka naga? or any description cause that would help a lots, i want to make my own custom icon and picture in the description to give it a more personal feel :) not useing one of those that came with the game *no offense bioware/blackisle* theyre execellent but i want a customized one that fits with the description.

Secondly how can i convert bam or what so ever into bmp so i can get the size, and vice verse.

secondly how do i edit the icons i got no clue
