-30 ac without BMU....?

Post by Yuusuke »

Has anyone gotten reasonably close to -30 permanently without their 'Unit'? I've tried alot of different armors and trinkets are a few different characters, and I just don't see how it could be possible.

Off the top of my head:

(Bard/Blade)
Base 0 -> Elven Chain +5
-1 -> Cloak of the Sewers
-1 -> Ring of Earth Control
-1 -> Dusty Rose Ioun Stone
-1 -> Tzu-Zan's Bracers
-1 -> Axe of the Unyielding
-2 -> Ring of Gaxx
-2 -> Single Weapon Style
-3 -> Amulet of the Master Harper
-4 -> 18 Dexterity

= -16 permanent AC

-2 -> Blur
-2 -> Protection from Evil (and being attacked by evil ;) )
-4 -> Improved Invisibility
-6 -> Greater Evasion
-10 -> Defensive Spin
-20 -> Other bards singing Improved Bard Song (-4/bard)

= -60 AC in combat, combine with mirror image and stoneskin, triggers to renew enchantments,... Not much should come through.

Real AC maxes out at -20, however, Blur and Improved invisibility grant penalties to opposing hit rolls, so your effective AC can go even below that -20. I don't know if a spell/ability affects the "real" AC or opoosing rolls, so I can't figure out the exact AC you'll be at (but it should be low enough :D )

It may seem like I'm doing nothing, but on cellular level, I'm really quite busy...

Actualy I think an equally good bet is a swashbuckler; don't they get AC bonuses every few levels or so? With use any item, add the above equipment and have a low-level mage cast a few spells on you. A swashbuckler should be around -25 or so (something like that).

In practice, Bards seem to "maximize" ac the easiest. -20ac is extremeley reachable even for a non-blade. (with a Blade doing defensive spin it's sick).

-20AC plus a stoneskin and mirror image = end of game, essentialy. This combo will get you though 95% of melee unscathed and unbreached. For particularly nasty battles throw in a spell trap to suck up dispelling spells.

Also, use those evasions/greater evasions! They seem useless at first, but an extra -4 or -2 does help vs. dragons or the like. And always be imp. invisible.

I think that the lowest you can get is with a swashbuckler.
18 dex: base 6
level 40: base -3
full plate +3: -15
2 rings: -18
helm: -19
scimitar defender: -21
darksteel shield: -24
master harper: -24(it stays there because the game does not let it drop more not counting on spells)

So you can not get close to negative 30 not much hits -24 except for criticals.

Some of the darkest day kits can get that I'm sure, but I'm still playing around

But yes, depending on what class and wpns you use, its do able.
My paladin using Shield of the order, the basterd sword (the paladiny one) wearing white dragon scale, with ring +3 and ring of gaxx, Lavender Ion stone with 19 dex had like - 14 or 15. Then adding spells, well, ya, it can be done.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.
