Gwalchmai struggled to say the words that would heal Dragon Wench. He eyes fluttered open, and her face contorted in anger. She jumped up, shoving Gwalchmai roughly aside. ‘No...Not yet!” she choked out, then drew her sword, “Where is the bastard? Where is the Shadow Master?”

“Gone. Slipped between the shadows he loves so well.”

Dragon Wench spun on Gwalchmai, who slumped in a heap against the wall of the cavern, “Why did you get in the way? I could’ve killed him! He was the one who killed my Jerran!”

“He’s done more than that,” Gwalchmai muttered, but said no more, focusing his healing powers on himself. The decay in his own body spread like a fast moving infection. He healed himself enough, but full recovery would require rest.

* * *

“Ya-Hey!” Darkpoet shouted, scoring a critical hit on the last Carrion Crawler. He then began to gather the bodies of the enemy into a pile near the golden pool. He added branches and dry brush to the heap as he went, “Jenna wanted a fire. I’m going to give it to her.”

* * *

“I swear I saw shards of that Dark Phoenix actually enter his body,” Georgi said, looking at the prostrate form of Nippy. Thantor shook his head. “I cannot fathom the damage caused by his uncontrolled assimilation of ancient power. And if what you say is true, he may have absorbed some of the Shade-Essence as well. I can sense that he is struggling internally.”

“It must be horrible to fight demons within yourself,” Vivien said innocently, while Loner and Kramor nearly choked.

“You have no idea,” Darkpoet said, placing a hand on Vivien’s shoulder. He then took her hand and led her to the pile of brush and bodies, “C’mon, Baby. Light My Fire!”

Vivien put her fingers together and wove a complex design in the air. A few words, and the Scorcher leapt from her fingers, igniting the pyre. Huge gouts of flame burst out of the conflagration as the volatile corpses caught fire. The flames reached high into the dark, almost touching the high ceiling of the cavern. Everyone moved back from the heat, carrying Nippy with them. For the first time, the room was filled with light, revealing intricate and detailed mosaics covering the walls and ceiling. The water in the golden pool began to boil and hiss. Everyone waited and watched to see what would happen next.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Kramor walked outside to get away from, the stench of the burning bodies. He found a spot, away from everyone and sat down, with his back against the wall. Closing his eyes, trying to digest, what had just happened.

Loner, tired from the battle, looked around for Kramor, and not seeing him, she left the others. She did want to speak to him, but was still uncertain of his reaction.

She rounded a corner and found him, sitting with his back against a wall. He looked up when he heard her familiar step on the stone floor.

She said nothing at first, only looked at him, then cast her gaze to the floor. "I --" she began, but didn't know how to continue. She approached him, fell to her knees, and said only "Forgive me."

Kramor touched the side of her face.
"There is nothing to forgive, it was something you tried to forget. I'm the one who left all mad, that's what the demon wanted."

She looked up at him, tears in her eyes. "I did try," she said. "And I know in my soul it's you that I love. I...I've been sick, feeling as if I've betrayed you in my heart." She clasped his hand and kissed it. "Thinking that I had hurt you, even for a moment, even though I didn't mean to...it's been tormenting me. That is why I felt you deserved better. That is why I thought you had a right to leave, and didn't stop you. I wanted to..."

Kramor spoke to Loner in a soft tone.
"Shhhh, don't worry about it. I'm not going to loose anymore sleep, over this. I don't think you should either. You are stronger than you will ever know, so use your strength to get past this."

Loner embraced him. "Thank you," she said softly. Then she kissed his neck, and whispered in his ear: "There are better ways to lose sleep, aren't there?"

Kramor smiled, "So do I, but we need to get Jeena back to the ruins."

the fire has been lit, the pool, hissed and boil as it absorbed the heat.
the gang gather together to feel the gentle warmth it gave. the fire started to fade to an amber but the pool became increasingly violent.

everyone began to heal within the light.and then the fire died.

"what, is that it? where is she?" darkpoet started to get peeved he wanted her to show up and say that she's alright.

"sshhh...listen," vivien tried to listen to something just beyond hearing.

the pool continue to boil at a faster rate. then all of them heard it.

a heartbeat.

at first- soft and slow, then beating faster and faster until the pool urupted into flames.
out came the phoenix in all her glory, emerging from the golden pool, speading her flaming wings and singing the song of death and rebirth, of sorrow's joy. she lifted herself up to the ceiling, through the opening and into the starry sky.
for one moment of glory, the pheonix came, in that moment her was sung once again.

the heart is the home of the pheonix. she is forever with us. she sang as she faded into nothing by the light of the full moon.

within the ashes of the fire that darkpoet built, lay jennabard.
sleep takes a vacation when baby is in the house.

Thantor, awed by the miracle he had just witnessed, sat in silent wonder for a moment, attempting to comprehend what had just occurred. But all he felt was an aching humility, a feeling he had often experienced in the presence of the divine. Rousing himself, he quickly checked Nippy, who was indeed healed. Then he joined the others in lifting Jennabard out of the ashes. Noting that she was alive and apparently unharmed, he stepped back for a moment, allowing those who knew her better to attend her. Watching the intense concern and caring in all of their faces, Thantor felt an deep feeling of gratitude that he had been allowed to travel and share adventures with people of such quality.

Darkpoet took control, which surprised everyone.
"Okay people, we need to get moving to the ruins. Loner, go get the horses." Loner, nodded and left quickly. Darkpoet gestured to Kramor to pick up Jenna. "When I get on my horse, had her up to me." He looked at DW, Gwally and Nippy. "Are you, alright to ride?" They shook their heads yes. "Good, I want to get out of here. Before, that Shadow Master decides to come back."
Kramor gently lifted Jennabard, and carried her outside and over to Darkpoet. In which he gently handed her to DP.
Dragon Wench and Gwalchmai, took the lead. Followed by Loner and Georgi, Dp and Viv, followed them. Kramor, Thantor and Nippy, watched the back trail. Stopping to listen, every once and while, to make sure that they were not being followed. When they got to the ruins, Kramor stopped, he stared in wonderment. Gwalchmai, rode back to him. "Um, you want to tell me something? I don't remember all this."
Kramor looked at how much, things changed. The ruins, were only partial. Even the grounds, didn't have a scruffy look to it.
"Gwalchmai, this wasn't here, when I left. I don't know what happened. Maybe, you should ask her."
Ria'ya came walking out, DW and Gwalchmai, jaws dropped. Kramor chuckled to himself, now he knew how he looked. Rai'ya walked over to DP, she reached up and touched Jenna's cheek. Kramor got down from his horse and Dp gently handed Jenna down to him. As Dp dropped from his horse. Ria'ya spoke, "Thank you, all for the help. There are rooms for all of you, if you fol....." Ria'ya covered her mouth, Vivien had just walked around from the horses and stood next to Dp. Tears formed in Ria'ya's eyes, she placed her hands on Vivien's face. "I can't believe he missed you, the both of you will be even stronger now. Light and Darkness, back together again."
It was Kramors turn to look like a fish out of the water.

The strange person Krarmor knew had grabbed Viv's face, and she was about to shout for help when she actually raised her eyes to meet the stranger's.

A click seemed to echo somewhere deep within her. Resounding in that part of the being which is only felt when one is neither awake nor asleep, but somewhere in between. She swayed slightly on her feet, but could not tear her eyes away from the person in front of her.

Colors and feelings flooded her and she saw in her minds eye visions of people. Women and men all striving against...something... deceived, beaten..but somehow victorious? Or not? A woman's face begame more and more clear amongst the rapid shapes flushing her mind. The woman turned to her, her face bright as if a sun lit her from within, and reached for Viv.

Vivien shook her head and blinked, and with a tremble she forced the images from her head. Staring with wonder at the stranger in front of her.

Kramor saw that Vivien was uneasy, with Ria'ya. "Viv, it's okay. She is a five hundred year old, relative of yours. She has been searching for her family, she knew of Jenna. Now she has found you."

Vivien looked from Kramor to the stranger, named Ria'ya, back to Kramor.

"Okay. This is a bit new to me, but I trust you. I just am not sure if I'm important enough to be a descendent of someone like...her. It is kind of fun though."

Viv smiled her usual smile at the stranger in front of her.

Ria'ya stood back, looking at the motley bunch. She pointed to DP and told him to take Jenna to the room at the top of the stairs. The others were to follow her, calling over her shoulder.
"Kramor, show Vivien the portraits. She needs to see them, to know who her descendants are."
"Yes, your Highness."
Kramor took Vivien to the hidden room, she stood and stared at the paintings.

Dragon Wench simply gazed at Rai'ya and the ruins in stunned shock. The day had already held enough unnerving encounters with the dead ( :D ), and she felt completely unprepared to deal with the woman in front of her.
Finally, she managed a rather strangled-sounding, "Uh........"

Rai'ya softly smiled at her in an understanding way, and Dragon Wench suddenly had the sensation that this woman knew a great deal about her journey to the spirit plane. Looking down, Dragon Wench flushed, and hoped that nobody had noticed her discomfort.

Gwalchmai caught Kramor's arm and pulled him aside, "You mean to tell me that that woman is actually the original Rai'ya?"

"Yeah. I mean, she was a raven, but now she's a woman... You should see the protraits. She's a dead ringer!" Kramor said, then frowned at the pun he'd made.

"But don't you find it a little suspicious? Why is a woman who was murdered almost 500 years ago standing around telling us what to do?"

Rai'ya had overheard the last few words and interjected, "I was murdered?"

"You don't know?"

"The last thing I remember in my life was going to the treasury to prepare for the merchants the next day. Something happened... I.. I'm not sure if I want to remember..." Rai'ya took a deep breath and continued, "After that, I have a dim perception of witnessing my granddaughters, suddenly all grown up but I knew who they were. They were fighting, side by side. I was so proud. Then I began to see you and your friends. The old library and mausoleum here in ruins. It should not be so... I found I could manipulate things. Kramor, so much like Rex, helped me to focus. I showed you the ruins, and as your friends drew near, I could become who I was again. I thought that Jenna was my only decedent, but Vivien... so much like Circe... The closeness of my family again gives me strength."

Vivien stared at the portrait of the woman Circe, the one she had been directed to. As in her vision, the woman seemed almost to shine from within, her light hair falling over her shoulders, her eyes fresh with mirth, and a slight smile on her lips. Vivien stared for a few minutes, taking the mysterious woman in.

She felt a hand on her shoulder, and jumped slightly, before realizing it was Darkpoet.

"So..it seems you have family?" He said quietly while looking at the portait.

"I've always had family." She said with a soft smile while looking at him and past him towards the others.

the battle against the shadow master took its toll on jennabard. she could barely make it to the fire pool in time for the ritual rebirth. her whole body ach and even her soul felt tired.

jenna opened her eyes to see herself in a comfortable bed.

'i'm alive'

"yes, thank the goddess for such good fortune." rai'ya smiled," hello, child."

jenna stared in disbelief and alarm.

"no, child, i'm not your shadow. i am rai'ya, your ancestoress. no questions yet, first eat and rest. you will need your strength."

the warmth of her smile calmed jenna. she continue to stare, too much has happen in such a stort time, but jenna could not help but feel that she has finally come home.

jenna couldn't keep her eyes open any longer and return to sleep.

Feeling slightly faint and in need of rest and solitude, Dragon Wench decided to retreat back to the keep for a while. Wandering through the empty halls was a disorienting experience. She was still bewildered by her meeting with Jerren, but she felt more serene than she had for some time. After a while, she found herself near the jacuzzi room. She walked in, selected her favourite essential oils and turned on the taps. When the water level was shoulder deep she sank in, a slightly blissfull smile lingering across her features.

Relaxing in the warm water, Dragon Wench listened to the silence in the keep. It was not often that she found herself alone, and she reveled in the privacy. She could hear the breeze from outside whistling and moaning through the keep - a mid-summer storm brewing a league away. Then a thought struck her: Why could she hear the breeze? The room they had converted to house the jacuzzi was an interior room on the second floor of the keep. No windows for the wind to whistle through. She looked around. The sound was faint, but seemed to be coming from the far wall. The wall was covered by a cheap, black velvet tapestry that depicted a muscular aboriginal man in a feathered headdress in the act of sacrificing a scantily-clad, and extremely well-endowed woman. Such tapestries are common in the market places to the south, and its cheesiness appealed to the Dark Flames, so they had not removed it when they had remodeled the room. Now the tapestry moved slightly of it own accord. Rising from the water, Dragon Wench tore down the tapestry (noting in the process that her own endowments rivaled those of the sacrifice), revealing a bricked-over entryway. Some of the mortar had fallen out, forming a small hole. She could feel air moving as she held her hand to the hole.

Georgi slipped away from the others, eager to explore the ruins. She wandered in wonderment through the ancient corridors, gazing at the rich tapestries that adorned the walls. Suddenly she froze, feeling as though someone was watching her. She looked around slightly nervously, but saw nobody. Just as she relaxed, she clearly heard a giggle, which sounded as though it came from the room directly ahead of her. The door was ajar, and Georgi cautiously pushed it open and entered. The room was empty.

She shook her head, scolding herself for being so fearful, and advanced into the room, one particular statuette amongst the treasures catching her eye. It was a small golden unicorn, depicted in an unfettered gallop, wild and majestic.

"It's pretty, isn't it?" said a voice behind her. Georgi whirled round, and saw a young girl grinning mischievously at her. She was dressed in sheer robes of green and yellow, and had leaves and golden mosses weaved into her dark hair.

"Who are you?!" Georgi demanded, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword although she sensed no hostile intentions from the being.

"Who are you?" responded the girl. "Isn't that what you came here to find out?"

Georgi was struck by the realisation that she may well be speaking with a higher power, although her knowledge of such things was too limited to put a name to this creature which stood before her. "I... I suppose so," she said, bewildered.

"You'll discover your place soon enough." The cryptic comment was accompanied by a meaningful glance. Following the stare, Georgi's eyes lighted upon a small golden locket. As she was about to examine it, the girl spoke again. "You travel with the cleric Thantor." Georgi's attention was recaptured at the name. She racked her brains, trying to remember the name of the goddess Thantor was devoted to. "What do you think of him?"

Georgi pondered the question a moment. "He's kind and caring. He seems wise, although he does have a tendency to pontificate..." Mielikki, her mind suddenly informed her. The goddess laughed, like the tinkling of a crystal stream.

"I see, so what you're telling me is you don't know Thantor at all. Oh, to see the look on your face..." she paused, musing on the thought. "Actually, that can be arranged." She reached out her index finger and touched Georgi's forehead. A barrage of images flooded her mind, for a brief moment.

"That is Thantor," Mielikki told her, satisfied with Georgi's dumbstruck reaction. She rubbed her eyes, confounded. When she opened them, the goddess was gone.

Trying to make sense of the encounter, she remembered the locket, and picked it up. Opening the clasp, she was confronted with two minutely-detailed portraits, each one no bigger than her thumbnail. One was a man she didn't recognise, though there was a comforting trace of wisdom in his countenance. The woman, on the other hand, was eerily familiar. "Ismena," she breathed softly, before closing her fist around the locket and turning on her heel, running back along the passages to share her discoveries.

(OOC ummm, I hope this fits in ok with the mystery history ;) please PM me if not... Oh, and I hope it was worth waiting for... :D )

@Gwalchmai :o :D

It occurred to Dragon Wench that perhaps she should put her clothes back on before proceeding further with her investigation. As she was about to examine the crumbling mortar, she noticed with interest that one of the aboriginal man's pupils was actually a small hole in the rug. "Odd," she muttered, and testing out the thought forming in her mind, she fitted the rug back over it's place. She was not surprised to find that the pupil exactly fit the aperture in the wall. While, it would not have shocked her to discover that one of her companions had been indulging in a shade too much lurking ( ;) ), she suspected that this was not the case. Taking her sword, she scraped at the crumbling mortar. Soon, a sizable hole revealed a small, dark, and oddly drafty room. Within it were piles and piles of tapestries similar to the one that had so impressed her and Gwalchmai when they first walked into the ruins. She also noted that a silver globe was situated on the small table near the rugs. She was curious, but caution decided that first she should get at least some of the others.

Hair still wet and tousled, she raced out of the keep, leapt bareback on her horse, and galloped off to the ruins.

As Dragon Wench galloped from the keep, she rejoicing in the feel of her powerful stallion between her thighs, mighty muscles flexing with a rhythmic pounding, the fur slick with sweat... ;)
She rode past Gwalchmai, who was trudging back to the keep. A minute later, Dragon Wench realized that she had passed Gwalchmai, and turned the horse around. “You didn’t even wave?” Gwalchmai asked. “Sorry, Gwally, I was distracted,” Dragon Wench breathed heavily. Reluctantly, she dismounted and walked alongside Gwalchmai, explaining about the hidden room she had found.

Back in the jacuzzi room, they quickly tore out the remainder of the bricks. Dusty velvets lay in heaps in the passage, behind which stood a small, ornate table with a silver ball resting on it. The table stood in the center of the passage. The sphere was about the size of a large melon, and glowed faintly with a silvery light. Beyond, the passageway was dark. “Let’s be cautious about this,” Gwalchmai said, casting Detect Traps. To his perception, the entire passage glowed a bright red, indicating one of the most powerful traps he had ever seen. “We sure could use a good theif, right now.”

“I have an idea,” Dragon Wench said. She cast Monster Summoning I, and a rabid dog appeared in a bright flash of light. Dragon Wench and Gwalchmai moved around the corner in the jacuzzi room, and she directed the dog to enter the passage. A loud, crackling flash of energy filled the passage, with bright, purple light pouring out. She peeked around the corner, and saw the dog’s incinerated ashes in a neat heap. “How does it look now?”

“Looks safe now,” Gwalchmai said. Together, they slipped past the sphere, being careful not to touch it. At the end of the short passage, their torches revealed small room - a study. A large desk, dry ink vials, collapsed bookshelves, and piles of ledger books. A single window had been boarded up, but a board had fallen away. Dust motes swirled in the single beam of sunlight, and they could see by their tracks on the floor, that no one had been in this room for hundreds of years.
