OOC: I second Gwally's question :) ICQ? Indecent Caress Quantities?

IC:
Viv finished her breakfast on the roof, the fresh breeze rushing through her hair and tunic, blowing away all the confusions and pain of the last few days. Or, so she tried to feel…

Laying down she closed her eyes, working on her spell exercises, or trying to. Visions of this Shadow something or other kept coming back. As she had no clear view of him, he occasionally looked like that giant gnome; sometimes he had Anomen’s distorted features, and sometimes Jennabards pleading face. The visions made her feel shaky and sick, so she sat up staring at the shadows cast by the trees around the keep. What is the essence of a shadow? Why should one fear it? Why does it have the power at all? She moved her hand through the shade cast by a tree, watching the way it darkened the color of her skin, as the sunlight cast small circles of light, pushing back the shadow. She was not in touch with Kai like the others, nor was she spiritual like Nippy, or in touch with healing like Gwalchmai, but maybe….

After finishing his prison-style breakfast, Thantor went upstairs to check on Dragon Wench. He knocked softly on her door. "Lady Dragon Wench? It's me, Thantor. May I have a word with you?"

"The door is open," he heard in reply.

Thantor entered but stood close to the door, giving Dragon Wench the benefit of her space. "I wanted to tell you that I have been moved by your courage and strength in what must be a very difficult situation. I cannot imagine what you must be going through, but I have known pain and from that place I can tell you that my heart goes out to you. I cannot speak for the others, but from my point of view there is much you contribute to this group, not the least of which is the incredible humanity you have shown in the past few days. We do not know each other well, but I offer you a willing ear, if that can be of any service to you."

He stood quietly and waited for her response.

[OOC: Thanks Thantor - geez, can't anyone speak English anymore?]

Gwachmai placed a large bowl of kibble in Anomen’s cell, and hung a large bottle of water on the outside the cage, with the spigot pointing in. Lastly, he moved a large exercise wheel into the cell. “There,” he said, “that ought to keep you for a few days, while we search for your soul – if that’s what we’re going to do. Some of the others think that we should head back to Kara-Tur to look for your Shadow Master. But that was years ago that he was spotted there. You are ample evidence that the Shadow Master has moved on. I think if we find out where he has hidden the key to your soul, we’ll probably find the Shadow Master as well.”

“You ****! You’ll ****** never ******* be as *****, ******, ****, as I ***** am!” Anomen spat, while flinging himself uselessly against the bars.

“So I take it you have no idea where your soul is hidden, hmmmm?” Gwalchmai said calmly, “Well, maybe we should head back to Ogre Falls, to the site of the binding ritual.” Gwalchmai headed back upstairs, careful to ward the dungeon against anyone but himself from entering.

Dragon Wench felt moved by Thantor's concern, and oddly, she trusted this near stranger.
"I feel as though I can't quite cope anymore. For years I was able to bear my grief by avoiding it, by trying not to think about the fact that Jerren laid down his life for me. But now, with the appearance of Nippy and other recent events.....she choked back a sob....it just won't go away. I know that I need to confront my past, to move on, but I can't seem to take that first step. In many ways I've become strong since....since he died, but.....I feel so weak now, I'm not sure that I can continue."

Sitting in the throne room with several of the remaining flying hooter girls Waverly was in thought yet distracted. The girls were battle weary, and seemed particularly concerned that they might have scars that would diminish their impressive appearance in their skimpier outfits. One winged warrior in particular was lamenting a small gash in her torso that she claimed was in desperate need of attention. Another was quite certain that Thantor had felt her up in the heat of battle and proclaimed her suspicion bitterly.

Waverly himself was uninjured, but thoroughly disgusted with their failure to destroy the intruders into the shadow realm. Looking upon his warriors he just thinking that it was time to move on when the castle, the winged hooter girls, and everything else around him simply dissolved into thin air. Waverly was now in utter darkness, and realizing for the first time that he was not a creature of the shadow realm; and that all this time it was only his thoughts keeping him company. He opened a portal and stepped through.

{OOC: At the breakfast table? In front of everyone?? With DW in such distress??? Surely we're not quite this bad... :rolleyes: :p }

Loner couldn't stand it anymore and began following the sounds of Anomen's cursing. She made her way down to the old dungeon, but stopped. Someone had put wards down. "Damnit," she muttered, and stood at the door.

"Looooo-nerrrr..."

Anomen was calling her from his cell.

"I can hear your voice out there."

"Too bad someone put wards down here, you sick bastard. I came down here to kill you. Or at least rough you up soundly."

"Ohhhh," Anomen purred. "I wish you would..."

Loner pounded on the door in a rage. Anomen laughed wildly.

"Why isn't your lover down here?"

"Hasn't he been by already? I thought he would've slit your foul throat by now."

"No, no, haven't seen him. It was a shame, wasn't it, about that injury? The arrows in his back. You got him fixed right up though, didn't you? 'Oh Kramor,'" he mocked, "'you own my soul, I would die without you, I never loved anyone before I loved you,' blah, blah, blah..."

Loner charged the door and was thrown back violently into the opposite wall. "How the hell do you know about that?!" she screamed.

Anomen only laughed hysterically in response. Loner pounded against the door again, then finally leaned against it, exhausted, struggling between her heart, which told her to find a way past this barrier and kill Anomen; and her training mind, which told her to turn around and leave, quickly.

OOC :@ Gwalchmai: Sorry about using botanical names, but you know if people don't start speaking more Latin, it could become a dead language. ;)
@Waverly: ROTFLMAO :D

"Painful as it is, this is actually a beneficial thing," said Thantor quietly. "Your grief has been draining you for sometime, but now you have the opportunity to release it. In some cultures, unresolved grief is thought to obstruct the lungs. Since the lungs are one of the primary ways that the body takes in ki, your weakness is not surprising. May I pull up a chair?" Thantor asked, pointing to the small woven chair in the corner.

"Please," replied Dragon Wench, sitting on the bed. "There is no antidote for grief, but there is a way to begin the healing," started Thantor, pulling the chair closer to Dragon Wench. "It is a simple but difficult process. You will need to face what you have run from all these years. As the first step in this process, I want you to tell me everything you remember about Jerren's death." Dragon Wench bowed her head. "I want you to tell me in excruciating detail every sound, every smell, every motion that occurred. I want you to relive the experience as intensely as you are able." Dragon Wench said nothing, but Thantor could see her shoulder muscles tightening and tightening. He leaned forward in his chair. "The fact that you are grieving does not erase the fact that you are a warrior, Dragon Wench. You can succeed in this. The only question is: will you try?" Dragon Wench took a deep breath, then nodded her head.

And so it went, slowly at first, then more intensely, broken only by wracking sobs, pounding fists, and clenched teeth. Thantor, trusting the integrity of her healing process, never touched her or comforted her in any way, except to offer her a handkerchief. At appropriate times, he would simply say, "Tell me more about that" or "What happened next?" At one point, Gwalchmai, hearing Dragon Wench's anguished sobs, burst into the room, but then respectfully withdrew once he saw what was occurring. There were points when Dragon Wench would become self-conscious at being so vulnerable with someone she barely knew and she would look at Thantor. Each time, he was right there with her, as if she and the process she was undertaking was the most important thing in the universe. She drew strength from his calm compassion and would continue. Finally, after what seemed to her as an eternity later, it was over. She had never felt more raw or more exhausted.

After a time, Thantor said gently, "Share with me what you are going through."

Although sunlight still streamed through the open window, Dragon Wench saw lttle more than twilight. After opening herself like that to Thantor and reliving Jerren's terrible last moments, she was emotionally spent. Again in her mind's eye she saw the ebony blade plunging into his heart, smelled the acrid stench of battle, and heard his agonized last cry as he fell to the ground. She remembered feeling helpless as she held him, watching his life force slowly drain away. But, she also felt calmer than she had for some time, a faint glimmer of something like hope beckoned to her from afar. Looking up she said, "Thank you, Thantor."

OOC: @Loner: Wow! Nice bit of knife-twisting dialog there!
@Thantor - or should I call you Dr. Freud? :)

IC:
Gwalchmai stood at the top of the stairs and watched Loner. She sat on the hard stone steps with her head in her hands. Anomen was asleep again, judging by the snoring.

“Loner, I know I’m not as close to your heart as some of the others, but I wish you would take some of my advice.”

“I don’t really want to talk right now,” she said raising her blindfolded eyes in his direction. Her rage and tears had made her scars stand out a violent red.

“I know. Just hear me out,” Gwalchmai said quietly, “That’s not Anomen in that cage. Before you returned, I felt a taste of the evil that resides within him. It is an evil that can fill any empty space in a person’s soul. Anomen’s goodness has been ripped from his body, and this evil has replaced it. Georgi seems to have a connection to that goodness, but I afraid it may be hurting her. We have to find a way to exorcize the evil, and replace the good. But first we have to find the good. If you love Georgi, you must put aside your rage and hurt. Besides,” Gwalchmai grinned, “You’ll never get past these wards. I made them with you in mind.”

Loner sighed, then smiled, “I’ll bet Thantor could get through them.”

“Maybe, but he might lose a few body parts in the process!” He took Loner’s hand and led her up the stairs, “Look, the main thing you all have to realize, is that Anomen and the Harem was just an excuse for you all to get together. Now the Order of the Dark Flame is stronger than the errant bastard in that cell. Restoring Anomen is just another good deed for the Order to perform. And we must restore him if we are to help Georgi.”
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Loner stopped and gave Gwalchmai a big hug.

"Gwalchmai, my friend," she said, patting him on the back. "Thank you." She sighed. "I'll do anything I can to help Georgi. Let's go find her, shall we?..."

OOC: @Gwalchmai: Actually, I'm more of a Jungian, but feel free to call me Dr. Thantor :) BTW, your last post was sweetly done...

"You did all the work, lady," said Thantor, "but it was a priviledge to work with you." He rose to leave, to give her time to sort through all she had experienced. "A couple of things, before I go. First, grief is messy and it has its own will. Accept that and know that your friends will accept it as well. Second, expect some rather vivid and emotional imagery over the next few days. Exhausting dreams are not uncommon. Journaling is helpful in this, because it allows you to take all of that material out of your head and make it more concrete. Later, your journal will allow you to see patterns and to appreciate the progress you are making. Finally, confide in your friends. The various points of view will be invaluable, but it is the intimacy that is truly the balm your heart needs. The dwarven people have a saying that you may forget those with whom you laugh, but you will never forget those with whom you cry."

Thantor knelt in front of her looking up into her eyes. "The worst is over. But if you need anything," he paused to give the word emphasis, "at anytime, come find me." He smiled and Dragon Wench smiled back. As he stood, he gave her an appraising look. "You should be proud of what you accomplished here. You are decidedly a person, and a warrior, of worth."

He left the room and headed to kitchen to find out if there were any real food anywhere in this Keep.

Somewhat disconcerted by the healer's evident wish to aid her in whatever capacity he could, Dragon Wench levelly met his gaze. Managing a wry grin, she assured him that she would find him in the event that she needed his help.
After Thantor left she felt vaguely at a loss. Just as he had alluded, the weariness she was experiencing was akin to the sheer exhaustion that followed battle. And, she reflected that perhaps this had been the most difficult confrontation she had ever had. It was so much easier to slice apart ogres or belch fire at devient nymphs, than it was to asault one's own demons. Suddenly she remembered Jerren's message to her. At the time, hearing it through Nippy, who so much ressembled his brother, had been more than she could bear. But now, in her calmer state, she wondered if Jerren's proclamation of eternal love was also intended to release her from the guilt that she had carried around for ten long years. She knew that had the situation been reversed she would have defended her lover to the death. With this insight, she curled up and slept.

It was winter. The desert of her homeland was burdened by a heavy covering of snow, Even though life was merely dormant, it seemd as though all existence had become extinct, snuffed out. Footprints appeared in front of her, materializing out of the snow itself; she followed them. They led her ever onwards, down a ravine, towards a river. Then she stopped, and cried out in terror. Human shapes had been etched into the white carpet, blood oozed from their open, hideously grinning mouths.

With a start, her heart pounding, Dragon Wench woke up. It was with relief that she noticed the sun's slanting rays playing across the covers, and saw the familiar contours of her room. Remembering Thantor's counsel she went off in search of pen and paper, maybe writing down these dreams would help her understand them, and maybe they would eventually stop.

dragonwench just finished writing down her dreams when all of a sudden her room filled wih light from an open portal. manveru stepped out of the portal looking like some cat dragged him in. dragon wench shocked at the sight and throughly annoyed by his entrance;

"i hate it when you do that. couldn't you just dimension door at the hall and knock, like a gentleman? this is my room."

manveru looked around and blushed. looking down to the ground;

"sorry, lady dragon, i needed to reach you as soon as possible. i've been trying to find jennabard...and i think i know where she is."

dragon stood up," i'll get the others."

Dragon Wench quickly decided that the simplist way to round up the others would be to head down to the kitchen where she could use the large dinner gong for her purpose. She reasoned that since it was only four in the afternoon, the noise would act as an alarm of sorts.
Georgi and Dark Poet were the first to appear. Dark Poet was still scowling, and Georgi had dark circles beneath her eyes. Nippy, in a seemingly dazed state walked in and appeared to be forming some sort of achaic symbol with his hand
Vivien wandered in, trailing a fragrant assortment of wildflowers and leaves.
Gwalchmai charged up in battle gear.
Behind Gwalchmai, Thantor appeared, a mysteriously shaped bundle in his hands.
Loner and Kramor wandered in last, slightly bedraggled and blushing furiously :D .

They all looked at her questioningly (was that her sanity they were questioning, she wondered ;) ) Breathlessly she said, "you have to come up to my room, Manveru is there waiting, he says he knows where Jennabard is." At that, everyone rushed up the stairs and headed to Dragon Wench's room.
Manveru gazed at them in his characteristically enigmatic manner and began to speak.

[OOC: You guys are fast! There have been three posts made while I was writing this! Please insert after Thantor's last post... Thanks ;) ]

Gwalchmai noticed Thantor in rummaging in the kitchen. “Where is all the real food?” the mage said, “The toast you served me was hardly enough to feed a miniature giant space hamster!”

“Hey! I cooked enough food for a breakfast feast. If you wanted more than just toast, you could’ve taken it,” Gwalchmai said as he directed Thantor to the cooling locker. The two men cut off a plateful of cured pork, and, with a loaf of asiago bread, took the meal outside to eat. “So, you spent a long time with Dragon Wench. Is she doing alright?”

“She has a lot of issues she must work through. I helped her to make a start in the right direction.”

“So you aligned her energies and palpitated her aura, or some such thing.”

“Far from it. I helped her to… Oh, you don’t care, do you? If you can’t massage it, you’re worthless.”

“At least I’m literally a ‘touchy-feely’ kinda guy. You just drone on and on about channeling your ki and inventing answers to everything.”

“Nature-boy Druid.”

“Quacksalver Mage.”

The two men grinned at each other, and continued eating their snack.
;)

edit
They were startled from their repast by the sound of the dinner gong being beaten like a claxon warning. They ran to their rooms to get the equipment needed to face the danger that they knew to be imminent.
