Order of the Dark Flame (Story, No Spam)
Waverly arrived in a shadowy realm weak, and loosing his grasp on the material plane. The magic faded from his form and he was once again Waverly and no longer the errant paladin. Looking down he saw a barely conscious Kramor, one hand still on his leg. Waverly seized him, and just as he had with Thantor, but with more ferocity, drained life force from him to sustain himself.
Kramor went limp. Waverly, thinking him dead, dropped him and moved on…

Then darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time
Loner awoke in a panic. "Easy," she heard Thantor's soothing voice. "Shh...you're going to be all right."
"Master," Loner choked, "I can't see you..."
"Don't worry. Just try to stay calm. You are already healed as much as my power can allow, for now. You must rest."
He didn't tell her that Kramor was missing. he knew she would jump right up and go off looking for him, and in her current condition that would bring certain death.
"Drink this," he said, handing her a potion of extra healing. She drank it painfully. She could feel the burns, all over...

Georgi poked her head inside Loner's tent, and beckoned Thantor. He followed her outside, where Dragonwench and Vivien were preparing to leave.
"We're almost ready. I don't think Gwalchmai can have gone too far, if he is alive. How's Loner?"
"She'll survive," Thantor replied gravely. "It's just a question of making sure she finishes her healing before she goes off in search of Kramor. That is, as far as she can heal, apart from him. Their ki-"
Georgi cut him off. "I don't need the mystical explanation, I know what you mean. Take care of her, Thantor. I hope you find Kramor... and not this Enoch character. Not until we're prepared for him."
"I shall do all I can, my lady. I hope your quest for Gwalchmai is successful."
"Thank you. Is Loner conscious? I'd like to bid her farewell..."

"Loner, you shouldn't be up!" Thantor admonished her, as he exchanged a worried glance at Georgi. They were thinking the same thing... blind or not, Loner would want to rush off looking for Kramor.
"Loner," Georgi said gently, taking her friend's hands reassuringly, "Kramor can look after himself." She swallowed, remembering how he had looked the last time she had seen him. "You need to recover. You'll get killed if you go chasing after him in your state."

Who, me?!?
"I'll be killed if I don't," Loner answered. "Master, may I speak to Georgi alone for a moment please." Thantor hesitated, but bowed slightly, and left.
"He's gone," Georgi offered.
"Georgi," said Loner. "I need to know exactly what happened. You don't understand...Thantor tried to tell you. My life force is bound with Kramor's, and his with mine. Please, tell me what happened to him, exactly..."

"I will find him," said Loner, her voice choked with a pained sob. "I will find him, if I have to search the rest of my life."
"I hardly think such melodrama will be necessary," said a familiar voice behind them. Turning, Georgi gasped. "It's Manveru!" she informed Loner.

Loner laughed slightly. "Not even I'm that foolish," she said.
She went back into the tent, guided by Thantor (a severe blow to her pride), and readied herself for the journey. She swathed herself in black garments and wrapped a black cloth about her face, to serve as a mask to hide the burns. At one point Thantor placed a hand on her arm. "Loner," he said, but she waved him off. When the Katana was on her back again, she went back to Manveru. "All right," she said.

Georgi frowned. "Well, I hope for your sake Kramor's not in a desert somewhere...
Good luck, Loner... Thantor, bring her back, ok?"
"Absolutely, my lady," he smiled grimly.
"And Kramor too..." The ladies of the Dark Flame embraced each other, as their ways parted yet again, and then Manveru stepped forward.
"How will we get back?" asked Thantor, before the wizard could speak.
Manveru cleared his throat, and reaching into his flowing robes, produced a pair of ruby slippers, which he gave to Loner. "All you have to do, is click the heels together three times, and say 'There's no place like home'," he told her proudly.
"*cough*ripoff*cough*" spluttered Dragonwench, as Viv stifled a giggle.
Manveru looked at DW, concerned. "You ought to take something for that cough." He turned back to Loner.
