Ah, just the question I was waiting for!
Paul Williams is a weird little gnome piano playing singer who had a brief moment of fame in the seventies. He was a friend of Richard and Karen Carpenter's and cowrote some Carpenter's songs including "we've only just begun". He also wrote a lot of songs for the movies (songs that would play over the ending credits kind of like Randy Newman in Toy Story), and he made a couple musicals - "Bugsy Malone" was a mobster musical set in the depression with a cast of children (and Paul Williams, who is child sized), "The Phantom of the Paradise" is a combination of Phantom of the Opera and Faust reset as a disco/rock opera with Paul Williams as the devil (!).
Paul Williams also appeared as the midget sidekick of the man who hires The Bandit to illegally bring liquor across state lines for a party in "Smokey and the Bandit".
Paul Williams is a very talented singer and piano player who was able to overcome his bizarre and disturbing appearance and win the admiration of America for a short time, only to fade away again 15 minutes later. His is a sad tale, yet it contains many lessons we can all learn from.
I have a link to a Paul Williams page here.

Well, not anymore. And I hope you're someday surrounded by all the punctuation you've abused and forced to read the collected works of Thomas Mann.Originally posted by THE JAKER:

Actually that's a vivid image - reminds me of a dream VoodooDali had once. I wish I had time to read the collected works of Thomas Mann. Actually I have read Dr. Faustus and Death in Venice, but not The Magic Mountain. What other ones are there? I really liked Dr. Faustus - interesting challenge to write about music that does not really exist. Of course I read them in translation, what would be REALLY nightmarish would be to read them in German while surrounded by a horde of malignant exclamation points and question marks.

Heh. The one I most recall of Mann's is Joseph and his Brethren, which I recall was published in several volumes.Originally posted by THE JAKER:

Hey, I just found out there was a Disco version of the Cantina song from Star Wars released in the 70's. That combines the best of both worlds: Disco and John Williams. Too funky!
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
I think your mixing up two things:Originally posted by Kayless:

1.Weird Al Yankovick(SP)has a song "Star Wars Cantina" which uses the tune of Barrie Manilow's "Copacabana".Instead of "Her name was Lola..." it goes "his name was Yoda..."
2.There is a tune out there - might also be Weird Al's, that is a disco version of the Star Wars theme- its realy funny.

Also, I don't generally specifically notice the music in a movie/show. Because I've always got music going, whether I'm sitting in my room at my computer or going somewhere in my car or some other thing, I'm a lot more likely to notice when there isn't any music playing than when there is music playing.

I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.
Nope, there was an actual Disco version of the song that was played on Juke Boxes (I downloaded it via Swapnut). No Wierd Al just the good old cantina song with a disco beat.Originally posted by Morlock:
