Turning the world ad&d

Post by Rob-hin »

I sometimes wonder about what it would be like if the world could be changed...

No more computers, cars, microwave ovens, fast food ect, ect. Instead of this all magic, dragons, quest and so on.

I would love to see a real live dragon, they are such great animals (even if they aren't real)

Wouldn't it be great to go on quests against evil (or good if you are evil), fighting with your friends ,casting spells, and seeing all this adventure while you make your way through caves looking for a lady in need of help or just to look for lost tressure!

How do you feel about this, would you like to change the world into this (or something else), change small things or nothing at all.
(not talking about the obvious like a world with no evil)

How would you feel if the wold suddenly was gone and we would live in the fogotten reals(with no memory of this life but with other REAL memories)?

(Finally edited, lowsy adsl didn't work anymore, I had to use my normal modem)

Right now the Forgotten Realms seem a saner world to live in.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Because I'm an idiot, and hit the edit instead of the quote button?

I've edited out my reply, so you can restate your initial post. My apologies, Rob-hin. :(

Well, you see, abusing a moderator's position has always been my secret ambition. That, and creating a new universe.

One down, one to go. ;)

Too many indecisions to make. ;)

Back on topic, I think a combination of our world and forgotten realms might be interesting...scary, but interesting.

I think it would be fun to live in Faerun. I think I'd make a great Mage. With my enhanced multitasking ability, it'd be hard to distract me from spellcasting. ;) :D

What are you talking about, this is Faerun. Why, just the other day, I extended my companies infrastructure to Waterdeep. Watched football in Menzoberranzan on sunday. They really need to learn a little more about the rules although, as I found out, they're a bad lot to scold.

I think what fascinates us about fantasy worlds isn't so much the fantasy element, as the ability to step into the shoes of a hero who is the focus of destiny. How much fun would it be, after all, to read a book set in any popular fantasy world, but told from the viewpoint of some baker working in a minor town?

Folks, you must read "Halfdan Snowytoes, Good Loaves for the Hundreds!" Observe our hero Halfdan as he gets out of bed each morning at 5 AM to remove fresh, tempting bread and cakes baked overnight in his perfectly average ovens! Thrill as he opens his shop, and makes a reasonable amount of sales! Gasp as he closes down for lunch, and maybe takes a short walk through the village green! Swoon as he reopens his shop...

Well, you get the idea. I think the "wonderous wonders" and "marvelous marvels" are fascinating in themselves, but the primary ingredient that draws us all into roleplaying or daydreaming is some desire to be The Chosen of the Gods. Instead of which, we're all currently playing tiny parts in a piece of fiction written by Bill Gates, to extol himself.

Think about it. Scary thought, eh?

I sort of agree. I'm really into fantasy because it is my way to escape reality. Instead of being just some "ordinary" not-so-popular semi-gothic girl from Saturn going to college on the planet Earth, I can become Elysia Moonstar, the ever popular silver-skinned and golden-haired elf traveling up and down the Sword Coast making friends here and enemies there. :)

I see it differendly

There will always be people who don't want to go on adventures (they can be the bakers) but in that world I'd love to go adventuring
Not so mutch becauce I wan't to be famous (well, maby a little ;) ), or becomming a god (ToB) but just for the adventures itself even if no-one ever hears about them.
