Yes, ma'am! Don't worry, we will work it out. Actually, we figure we've procreated enough, and so in a year or two, I'm thinking of getting 'fixed'. That should improve things somewhat. Also, we are slowly getting used to the climate here in Arizona, and are getting out more for exercize. Also, we're planning on winning the lottery.... (we'd hire a maid service first thing! Think of the time we'd save!)

Truly, Gwalchmai, some household help is invaluable to the modern family. Almost everyone I know has some kind of help with house cleaning or looking after children or both.

What do you mean by getting "fixed"? I'm not sure I understand. Or is it something Buck would ban your spelling out?

But yes, I think a vasectomy is a good idea if you feel you have reproduced enough. Aren't they even reversible nowadays?

Now that's a dissertation topic all on it's own.......

I don't know, and while there are no doubt many theories, I'm not sure that anyone does. My own feeling is that some of it is related to the notion of property and heirs which I think came about sometime in the middle ages; female sexuality had to be controlled in order to ensure that one's heir was legitimate. I also tend to believe that subconsciously men have a deep-seated awe (or fear), and envy of women as bearers of life, thus the desire to control. This especially comes out if you look at the transition from midwife-assisted deliveries to physician-attended hospital births. Suddenly science seemed to be offering answers and control to one of life's great mysteries......

This is all just idle speculation though.....

My parents are still very much in love and they have been for 25 years, they live in a 'christian' ethos and are equal partners in the marriage, my mum does her bit and my dad does his, they have a love they have worked at.

What causes a lot of confusion is the fairy tale love that can be seen also in the most recent hollywood teen movies like 'she's all that', where the love lasts forever and it is all perfect once you have found that person.

IMHO i can not agree with the notion of a perfect love, one has to work at it and one can not just expect it to last, a large degree is also finding the right person in the first place.

But this is all my own opinion and is derived from someone who has never been in a loving and sexual relationship, i can not comment on the passion aspect.

Re the repression of female sexuality in Christian morality: Um, I realize I'm no psychiatrist or anything like, but I am a CHristian and I know my own faith. And I can tell you, that isn't true. Here's the teaching: sex is a gift from God and is a sacred act of union between two human beings, a physical manifestation of a spiritual bond. What the church teaches is chastity. That doesn't mean repression; it means 1. abstaining from sex until marriage. This isn't repression either, IMO. It's just waiting. 2. Remaining faithful to one's partner within marriage.

And the virtue of chastity is applied to the male as well as to the female in this teaching.

I realize that there may be some "Christian" sects that teach sexual repression; but the mainstream churches do not. And I also realize that not everyone will agree with this; I just wanted to clarify the teaching.

Modern teaching, yes... What about the hundreds of years when the ideas of the Church became ingrained in society? I don't think the argument that sex should be for procreation, not pleasure, was that uncommon...

But I'm not expert either
