Your Love definition
What's your definition about this greatest gift from All Mighty Himself ?
Here's one of them :
LOVE IS JUST LIKE SOMEONE WAITING FOR A BUS
When the bus come, you look at it and you said to yourself "Eeek.. So full.. Cannot sit down one". So you said to yourself, "I'll wait for the next one". So you let go and wait for the second bus. Then the second bus come, you look at it and you said to yourself "Eeek.. This bus so old. surely very uncomfortable one". So you let the bus go and decided to wait for the next bus. After a while, another bus came. It's not crowded and not old but you said, "Eek. non air-con one. and the weather is so warm, better wait for the next one". So again you let the bus go and decided to wait for the next bus. Then the sky started to get dark as it is getting late. You panicked and jump onto the next on coming bus. It is not until much later that you found out that you had boarded onto the wrong bus!
So you wasted your time and money waiting for what you want! Even if an aircon bus came can you ensure that the aircon bus won't break down or will the aircon be too cold for you?
The bottom line of being love is like waiting for a bus and whether you want to get on the bus and give the bus a chance depends totally on you. And walking alone is just like being out of love.

But walking along, no matter how dependable your feet are, you still might get hit by the really fast, brightly painted bus, and get carried away to some exotic locale where they serve drinks with little umbrellas in them. But then you'll find that the mechanics have taken a liking to your sleek new bus, and it will spend the weekends in the shop leaving you all alone to care for the little VW bugs.Originally posted by loner72:

Well, all right, here's my definition, originally sung by the great Roy Orbison himself:
Love hurts
love scars
love wounds
and mars
any heart
not tough
or strong enough
to take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud, holds a lot of rain
Love hurts
love hurts
I'm young, I know
but even so
I know a thing or two
I've learned from you
I've really learned a lot, really learned a lot
Love is like a stove, burns you when it's hot
Love hurts
love hurts
Some fools rave of happiness
blissfulness
togetherness
Some fools fool themselves I guess
But they're not fooling me
No it isn't true
no it isn't true
Love is just a lie
made to make you blue
Love hurts
love hurts
Love hurts
love scars
love wounds
and mars
any heart

Yikes, I don't know what kind of relationships you guys have had, but comparing your partner to a bus is probably why your single!

Hmmm... my definition of love:
*rolls sleaves up and puts brain into first gear*
I think there are some wonderful quotes out there that sum it up nicely.
Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.
Love is the crossroads of humanity and insanity;
humanity was built upon it, insanity is a result.
Falling in love is awfully simple. Falling out of love is simply awful.
The road of life is made smoother when traveled with someone we love.
The grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for.
Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward in the same direction.

Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

Ok, lemme tackle this one piece by piece:
Theres more to love than romance. However, romance is a nice part of it. It can last forever, you just have to find new ways of adding it in. Like a good song, it can get boring if played too many times... spice is the life of love!Unfortunately though the reality is that romantic love seldom ever lasts
It would seem natural to me that you would want to change the way you do things as you grow as a person and as you grow as a couple. I like to believe that your love grows as you do. Change is inevitable (except from vending machines
Is that love then if it's so easily diminshed? Sometimes we couple up due to other needs and often mistake it for being love. Truth is, it is just often a convenience for both parties and as they grow, they realise that theres no love to grow with them, thus break up.fades easily, and is prone to transfer its affections to another party with slight provocation
Now I'm only 21, so my concept of love is surely going to change in the future... but for now... it suits me fine

Now for a social psychological perspective
One could define passionate love as a state of intense absorption in another person involoving physiological arousal.
You can compare that to compassionate love, which could be defined as the caring and affection for another person that usually arises from sharing time together.
Looking at definitions for romantic love however, such factors as:
Constantly thinking of the lover;
Wanting to spend as much time as possible with them;
The lover being the focus of the person's life; and
Intense emotion.
are common and often seen as uncontrollable factors.
So is that what love is? An uncontrollable infactuation with another person that you desire to be with?
It works for me!!!

This is very true. Personally, I don't trust the emotional factor of "love". I think it needs to be a conscious decision, an act of the will.Originally posted by Vehemence:

I'm just speaking from my own experience here. Hey, I admit it, I'm jaded and bitter. (I didn't just get my name from nowhere, you know

But not before quoting the great Bessie Smith: "Lawd, a good man now'days sho' is hard to find."

Isn't that part of love though... losing yourself to your emotions?Originally posted by loner72:

They don't call it "falling" in love for nothing

I hate falling. Especially from great heights. It hurts, and there's always a good chance of breaking things that take ages to mend, and some things never mend properly at all...
Emotions are part of it, sure. That's exactly my point. Emotions don't last, so when they fade there has to be a conscious decision to stay with this person for whatever reason, or else it's over. Personally, emotions have never led me anywhere but straight into suffering and misery.
Hmm, I did say I was leaving, didn't I?...

If your afraid to fall, how will you ever climb the mountain?
Emotions heal... isn't that worth the risk?
"I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."

Memories don't heal, but the pull towards life lessens pain. Unless you plan on following path of no-involvement, engaging in the emotions of life is what gives color to everything. Fear of this is natural, after being severely hurt, but people who have locked themselves in towers have been known to starve to death.
I'll try to find some other uplifting and incomprehensible things to say in a bit, and post again.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

She then sits on the floor in a meditative posture, determined to discover and follow the path of "no-involvement"

Can anyone out there seriously look me in the eye and tell me that a life without a romantic partner (or, realistically, several) is not a fully human life??...
@Vehemence: Why do you think I've never been interested in mountain-climbing?
People die of asphyxiation up there...
Before everyone accuses me of being thoroughly cold and heartless: I believe in love as in treating people decently. Like, giving a glass of water to someone who's thrirsty, or visiting shut-ins, or the like. Making people's lives better by one's comapssionate presence. But Eros? Nightmare. After so many involvements, your soul gets ripped to shreds.

Loner, I can only say this:
Life goes on.

Life goes on.

And I thought I was cynical.Quotes from Loner, amateur greeting card designer:
Ah...but you can depend upon your own feet, can you not? Who knows where the bus will break down and leave you stranded.

The ideal is wonderful. Unfortunately though the reality is that romantic love seldom ever lasts. It fades easily, and is prone to transfer its affections to another party with slight provocation

Then darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time
