I wanted to take this opportunity to tip my hat to all the brave women and men who have served, are serving, and will serve in the military. I am not sure how other countries celebrate a Veteran’s Day – I assume they all do (e.g. Remembrance Sunday in Britain), but I don’t know if it happens on November 11th as here. But this is a day set aside to honor those who have served their country in times of war and peace. No matter the politics of any given conflict, these fine individuals deserve our respect and remembrance on this day, as well as each day throughout the year. Thank you.

Veteran’s Day
Originally it was called Armistice Day, enacted in 1926 to commemorate the end of WW1 and those who had served. It was changed in 1958 to Veteran’s Day in order to include those who fought in WW2.

That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.
I second that. Their sacrifice gave us the world as we have it today. I personally think they deserve more recognition than one day.
I salute them.
I salute them.

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
