Dedications

Post by jennabard »

i want to create a thread for everyone to add their thoughts to anyone and everyone affected by this tragedy. send a dedication.
***********************************************

i dedicate this song to the firefighters, police officers and servicemen and women.
it's by five for fighting called superman (it's not easy)

i can't stand to fly
i'm not that naive
i'm just out to find
the better part of me
i'm more than a bird...i'm more than a plane
more than some pretty face beside a train
it's not easy to be me

wish that i could cry
fall upon my knees
find a way to lie
about a home i'll never see

it may sound absurd...but don't be naive
even heroes have the right to bleed
i may be disturbed...but won't you concede
even heroes have the right to dream
it's not easy to be me

up, up and away...away from me
it's all right...you can all sleep tonight
i'm not crazy... or anything...

i can't stand to fly
i'm not that naive
men weren't meant to ride
with clouds between their knees

i'm only a man in a silly red sheet
digging for kryptonite on this one-way street
only a man in a funny red sheet
looking for special things inside of me

it's not easy to be me.
sleep takes a vacation when baby is in the house.

This is a song that has always brought a tear to my eye, even before I introduced my mum to Nanci Griffiths (of whom she became a fanatic) and we subsequently played it at her funeral... :(

Originally this song was written by Julie Gold but subsequently covered by Bette Midler - and my favourite version - Nanci Griffiths...

Dedicated to all those touched by the tragedy, to the heroes that are still risking their lives to save others, to my friends here on this board.

And not forgetting the armed forces now being mobilised who may inevitably get involved to put and end to the risks of something like this ever happening again...

This is a real song of hope - a real tear jerker....

*********************

.From a Distance (the Nanci Griffiths version)

From a distance the world looks blue and grey and the snow capped mountains white,
And from a distance the ocean meets the stream, and the eagle takes to flight.

From a distance there is harmony and it echoes through the land,
and it's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace, it's the voice of every man.

From a distance we all have enough, and no-one is in need,
and there are no guns, no bombs, no disease - there's no hungry mouths to feed.

From a distance we are instruments, and we're marching in a common band,
playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace, they're the songs of every man.

God is watching us, God is watching us, God is watching us - from a distance...

From a distance you look like my friend, even though we are at war,
from a distance I can't comprehend what all this war is for,
and from a distance there is harmony, and it echoes through the land,
and it's hope of hopes, it's the love of loves, it's the heart of every man....

it is the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves, this is the song of every man.
