Favorite and least favorite actor/actress

Post by C Elegans »

What is your favorite and least favorite actors and actresses?

Some of my favorites:

Brian Blessed: I love this guy :) Great comedian as well as drama actor. Most beautiful voice I've ever heard.

Emma Thompson: Every role I've seen her in looks like she's playing herself - so incredibly natural and present.

Yoshiro Mifune: A master of expression - you understand what he's saying although you don't know a word of Japanese :)

Robert Carlyle, Christan Bale, Ian McKellan

Some of my least favorites:

Keanu Reeves: A guy who makes a difference - he can turn a good movie into a really crappy one ;)

Kevin Coster: I fall asleep as soon as I see him.

Julia Roberts, Billy Crystal

I certainly don't consider myself any great judge of acting talent, and whether I like an actor is based pretty much by whether or like I enjoy the movie. At any rate, some of my favorite actors are:

Tom Cruise - very good at playing the ****y yet likable type, he may be no Anthony Hopkins, but his movies are fun to watch
Uma Thurman - an odd face, but somehow it works
Matt Damon - great at playing the role of an earnest, sincere young man who stays true to himself despite adversity
Penelope Cruz - have only seen her in one movie (All the Pretty Horses) , but there's something about her; there was an insightful article about her in Vanity Fair a month or two ago
Kristin Scott Thomas - loved her in The English Patient and Four Weddings and a Funeral, very genuine

Least favorites:
Rodney Dangerfield - something about him just bugs me
John Goodman - ditto
Renee Zellwiger - her acting seems too pronounced, a little exagerrated (or maybe I'm confusing her with Joey Lauren Adams)

(Note: I don't know why a word got deleted from this post, but it's a synonym for over-confident)

tom cruise is by far my least favorite actor, he has not improved at all over his years f acting. he's just horrible.
brad pitt started off being a terrible actor as well, but has really come around and does some great work.
another young actor i like is brendan frasier. he has done some really bad movies, but he has shown diversity that no other actor has right now.
of course the current greats are at the top of my list: anthony hopkins, sean connery, etc.

actress i hate...gwyneth paltrow, i just cannot stand to even look at her, i just want to punch her.
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor

Some of my favorites:

Leonard Nemoy-I've seen him in a lot of stuff, he's a great actor.

Brent Spiner-Also a good actor, imo.

Sean Connery-I simply adore his voice.

Jeri Ryan-What can I say...well...not much, but she's hot. ;)

Patrick Stewart-Awesome actor, both on TV and on the stage.

Scott Bakula(sp?), Will Smith, Keanu Reeves, and Carman Liquordello(sp?)

Least Favorite:

William Shatner-Good author, Kirk's cool, but Shatner is a terrible actor, imo.

I watched one of his movies a while ago, the one where he has to go through school all over again to get some inheritance.

Poor guy fell into the trap where he is now stereotyped.

Kenneth Brannigan is a damn fine actor, while Emma Thompson's an equally good actress. Like 'em both. :)

William Shatner would probably qualify for my world's worst, given that he's a triple threat man: horrible actor, writer, and director.

I agree that he's a horrible actor. I love his books, though, at least the Star Trek ones(as I have not read his others). The only thing I know of that he has directed is Star Trek 5 Final Frontier. While it is the worst of the Star Trek movies, it was not because of his directing. There were tons of problems with time, script, etc. Also, the original idea he had for Star Trek 5 and the actual story in Star Trek 5 were very different. His original idea meant for the Enterprise to meet both God and Satan. While this could make a great movie, it would never work for Star Trek. So, instead, they had the Enterprise discover a false god.

My only real problem with his acting is that he's always so overdramatic that it's annoying. I also hate those priceline.com commmercials he did.

@SS, That's your opinion, and I've already offered mine. They're both valid. Live with it. :D

Actually, I stated no opinion on his directing. I stated facts about what made Final Frontier such a bad movie. The source of these facts is Leonard Nemoy's book I Am Spock. If these problems had not occurred, it is possible that Shatner's directing abilities(or lack thereof) would've caused it to be a bad film. However, it is impossible for anyone to know for sure. Since, AFAIK, the only thing I've seen that Shatner directed is Final Frontier, I cannot formulate an opinion of Shatner's directing ability and thus I have no opinion to have stated. :p I would not be surprised if Shatner is a bad director, but I also would not be surprised if he is a good director.

I think it's "Branagh" if we are talking about the same guy, Emma Thompson's former husband and also a former member of Royal Shakespeare company. He left RSC and went on to make Shakespeare films - Henry V was his debut, a masterpiece :) He's also made very good adaptations of Much ado and Hamlet. If this is the man, I like him a lot too :)

His films always feature Brian Blessed, btw :) And Christian Bale (famous from American psycho) actually had a small part in Henry V as a young boy :)

Look again, fable. I had typed the wrong word, which isn't too surprising since it was 3:18AM when I was typing that...
