How is everybody today?

Post by C Elegans »

It's the day after the worst terrorist attack the world has ever seen.

Many people have been up all night, rescue workers, politicians and people desperatly waiting for news about what has happened to their loved ones.

Other, like me, awoke and realised this was not a nightmare, the catastrophy is real today too.

So, how is everyone?

I saw at the BBC news that FBI has stormed the Western Hotel in Boston with a bomb squad, but it's not known yet how and if this is related to the attacks.

I've heard all day that the evidence against Bin Laden is accumulating.

Unconfirmed reports about arrests in Florida is coming in.

Please post what you have heard.

And take care of yourselves.

I heard just now something about an arrest in Florida. I just barely caught it, but they said something about a white vehicle with a flight manual written in arabic. Have to wait and see I guess.

Waking up this morning was definatly different. Kinda still in shock, in some ways the reality is just now starting to settle in.

One of my concerns at the current time is that we are being majorly bombarded by news, and most of it is the same, they seem to repeat the same news all the time, my concern is that through all the perpetual media coverage people are going to get apathetic towards what is the worst terrorist action of my lifetime, we must all remain vigilant at this time. This has happened before, how long did it take before the were Princess Di jokes?

But think about who made the Princess Diana jokes.

As long as the US takes this rationally and doesn't lash out no one should be apathetic
to the terrorists. lets hope no inoccents are hurt in the search.

@Sleep and all: Media coverage leading to apathy is certainly horrible. In Sweden, the extensive coverage of the wars in the former Yugoslavia, led a few people to feel that they were all tired of Bosnia and "it's better they all kill each other"

But as justAidan says, it's a minority of people who react this way (I hope?).

It's good that the world has come to our aid just as we have theirs...

Too... many... wars... must... update... history books. @_@

Yeah, I wish the news would cover newer news, such as what has gone on today in Manhattan instead of yesterday. I mean I want to know their PROGRESS. @_@

Just heard Colin Powell's press conference on the news. What he said about international coalition against terrorism sounds very good to me.

@JB: I'm so happy your father is alive and well :) Must be very difficult for you and your family that your father has chosen such a dangerous but important job.

@c elegans- the thing is, is that his job is not dangerous at all.

when he was in the army, he was just an admin. you know, paper pusher for finance. we were living in germany in the early '80s during all those terrorists attacks. the bombed the base shopping center. my dad left the building just before it blew up.

now his is a govt. worker for the national guard's bugeting department. his office is across the street! how dangerous could that be!!!

he was also in korea when park chung hee was assainated. no american could leave the base and all nationals were kicked off. including my mother.

now all could do is give solance to those going through all this crap. i feel like a veteran of terrorism, having even my life threaten by it as a kid.

Shaky. My family is at risk, and I am extremely upset. I am still waiting on word from friends. There are no words sufficient to describe this...
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I'm still somewhat in shock about this. I let my mom drive me to and from class this morning because I just didn't feel that I was in a condition to drive. :(

That's somewhat scary and definitely sad about that mosque getting threatened. I go to Tempe fairly often and I've probably even driven past that mosque. :(
