I think the line needs to be drawn where respect ends and disrespect begins. I can make fun of myself and/or others while respecting them and myself, but when respect is lost the line is crossed. The fun dissapears and the hurting begins. I don't know how to write down how this feels, and how I think about it, but to me respect was lost.
And to those who misunderstood me, make fun of me all you want.

Look, I am not religious, and am not myself "offended" by this link, but I do think that it crosses the lines laid down by the Forum Rules.

Just a hypothetical question. Would you Christians (Or of similar beliefs) feel differenlty if that was picture of another person crucified? In case some of you are wondering, it wasn't onyl Christ that was crucified on the cross. The Romans did to hundreds, if not thousands of people. Is it the face that this particular picture depicts an interesting social commentary on Christ crucified that makes you upset? Persoannly, I look at this as a comment towards how the beliefs of God and Christ have many different faces, and that each one is interpreted slightly differently then the other. For instance, the Mormans believe that Christ will be reborn in Utah. My advice is to not look at this as an insult, or even really as a joke. Look at this as how Christianity is diverse, and can suit the needs of many people in the world, without changing the general message. One last thing, I am not Christian, nor do I believe in God. I am Atheist (As the regulars know) and as such, I do find this "cute", but not overly hillarious, or side splitting.

Now I'm thinking about it, I would probably feel the same way perhaps not as strongly but I wouldn't consider it to be funny either way.
And I'm aware of the fact that he wasn't the only one who was crucified, and I also know they had the nasty habbit of burning living Christians on high poles using them as party-lights.
And everyone would consider making fun of people who where burned alive, bad taste, disrespectful, insulting and rude etc.. But making fun of the crucified son of God is funny???

*sigh* I live in a country that has a large problem with integration, for instance there are areas that are specifically one race or creed. For some reason, there is a general gravitation to these areas depending on roots or customs. I cannot see any way that humour could break down these social barriers, for a short while it may give a false sense of security, but inevitably - when there is a rising, you come to see how tenuous these connections are...this is human nature...Posted by Xan -
We have in the area where I live a large problem with integration - and many of the people that are having problem with being integrated are the ones telling us that we need to lighten up on issues.

@Yshania: well I'm simply quoting what the people "under" integration have stated.
Many of these try to understand "danish humor" when wanting to integrate themself, and thoese that succed are the one that have most luck with it (as stated by themself) - therefore it can be used as a means of bringing people closer together.
That is why I "fear" to much PC-ness.
But of course that is IMO.

When humour like that is based on respect it can bring people closer together and bring about understanding, but too often there is no respect involved. It's usually about closed minds making fun of the different. And then those same jokes only serve to widden the gap.

Ok two things:
1. making fun of yourself and making fun of other people are completely different. having a sense of humor about yourself is great, you can make fun of yourself all you want and no one cares, but you need to be careful about what you say and do to others as not everyone can view themselves in a humorous manner.
2. There is a big difference between being funny and being disrespectful. i am a sarcastic person. i make sacastic comments about myself and other people all the time. when i do this i dont mean any disrespect and i dont want to hurt anyone, im just trying to lighten the mood and have fun. however i try not to make fun of anything personal, such as someones physical features or someones beliefs or religion. the other person would have every right to interpret that as disrespect and become offended. this website was not making fun of Jesus or Christianity, it was disrespecting them.
