I know I'll never smoke. I won't even try it. My mom has said the same thing for all 42 years of her life and she still doesn't smoke, even though my dad smoked for the first 12 years of their marriage(he quit in 1990). If she can do it, I certainly can and will. :)

Exactly. I won't let it near me. Nobody has ever offered it to me, since they know I beat the crap out of the people that do... :D

I'd rather just never smoke. The concept of smoking sickens me. Who the heck wants to smell like that anyway???????

What I'm trying to say is that you are already addicted.

You don't know it, because you don't smoke. Better to remain this way. Please never try it.
The will requested to never try it is far lower than the will requested to quit it.

I have never smoked (although I'm only 14, but some of my "friends" do), and I hope I never will. :)

if they ever try to make you smoke, thwap 'em because you don't want to regret it when you're older... and once you're out of 1st year it's easier to say no... :)

Actually the first puff is disgusting ;) Why people perservere is an individual issue. I first smoked a cigarette at 8 - just the one - given to me by a babysitter  I smoked again at 12 for a few months, in those days it was not illegal for shops to sell cigarettes to under 16s, and our local shop used to sell single cigarettes. I started smoking regularly at 15, though I stopped during both my pregnancies, and I never smoke around my kids.

It is not the first puff that is addictive, it is the last puff :) Watch any smoker that has no cigarettes, and see how soon after running out/giving up they want one.

@Shadow, there are more and more places now that are non-smoking, smokers are now considered social lepers. :)

It is good to see that attitudes in young people are changing, that smoking is not the cool thing to do any more :)

Might've guessed Ysh. ;)

I don't smoke now (he says) but I have a pack of cigs in my draw at home just in case (along with celabratory cigars).

What are you non-smoking kids gonna do when someone offers you a toke of MJ? Shadow Sandrock is going to beat them to hell but will everyone resist drugs too? :D

To be honest, yeah. I'll steal the Glaive and have a bit of fun ^_^

@Ysh yeah, young people don't really see it as 'cool' anymore as much as they did about 20 years ago. :)

My cousins smoke - all of them.
They have offered some to me.
I have always declined.

Oh yeah like Sandy i beat up older cousin by 4 years because he kept offering me cigs.

Personally i would beat up anybody who offers young kids a smoke or drugs.

I used to smoke. Couldn't say I quit. Probably abstained for a long time (5years and counting).

Strange, all members of my previous nuclear family smoke except me.

Never got addicted to it (dunno why). I could finish 2 packs in a day then a couple of weeks after, not even a single stick.

I abstained for a vain reason...

I certainly don't wish to promote the sale of cigs or drugs to children.

But those "kids" here (no offence intended) will soon be 16, 18 or 21 and likely to come into contact with such vices. How will they react then?

look ad this, this is really starting to be a serieus topic :D .

i started smoking when i was almost 16.
i used to say :"I WILL NEVER SMOKE!!!!" and now i smoke 8-10 sigarets a day :(
i don't know why i do it and i can stop when i want (thats what i tell myself all the time but it is hard to do)
all my friends smoke and ad school we smoke during the breaks.
i tried quiting smoking but it was so boring during the breaks so i stopped quiting and went back to my smokes.

It is bad for my i know but i don't know how to say it but somehow it is just enjoyeble.

I am 19.
My cousins are 20 years older than me atleast.
I have been dealing with being offered smokes since i was 13.
I have dealt with it so far, and i will not smoke in the future.
A majority of the population doesn't smoke.
None of my close friends smoke - around 15 of them.
Smoking is a popular thing anymore.

I grew up in a house with two smoking parents. I hated it all my life. Within two months of leaving for college, I was unconsciously buying smox (sounds like smocks). I never figured out why; that was twelve years ago. During college and shortly thereafter I smoked about 1.5 packs/day. Now, I can't handle that volume anymore and am comfortably down to about two packs a week. I try to stay out of bars because that is when things really get out of control. Just my two cents, the discussion seemed to move away from the original theme and I'm just telling my story.

Moral: it's my parents fault. All that second hand got me hooked before I ever picked one up. Just kidding here although there is some suggestive brainwashing effect taking place 'ere.
