I can't remember this and I have no means to test it.
During the Main Quest, while infiltrating the Mythic Dawn shrine, you are presented with an option to kill an innocent Argonian named Jeelius. If you do kill him, will the Dark Brotherhood try to recruit you afterwards?

If you kill him you should be recruited, but not if you leave him to be crushed by the falling statue or if you are still playing the part of a cult initiate.

Thank you, that's a big help. I had a little playthrough in mind, you see.
I'm not actually supposed to be able to play Oblivion on this old laptop, which I've now been using for two years without touching any serious games. But I found a way to make some of them run. Even the LOD distant landmass is on.
It's an interesting thing to squeeze the most out of an old computer. I get surprised all the time of what it is suddenly capable of. Good fun.

If you're going dark side, then I suggest trying out the Servant of the Dawn mod, it's a darn good mod that allows you to change sides after Martin's death and the supposed permanent banishing of Mehrunes Dagon. It isn't compatible with Knights of the Nine, but neither should it be if you're playing the Elder Scrolls version of Darth Vadar!

Thanks. I did play it already and I remember it being quite good.
There is also a similar mod for Morrowind where you get to join the 6th House. Better written than most of the faction quests.
