Whats the max number of companions allowed in game im in act 2 have the 3 initial companions and one from start of game so i was wondering when we get any more without swapping out anyone from party

For SOZ it's 4 + 1 + 1. So 6 possible at any one time.

You'll need the "Leader" feat on the character you built first to get that final 6th character. Without it it's 5 total.

You can only have a maximum of 4 of your own making, OR a minimum of 1 of your own making. That leaves the potential to have 5 in-game companions if you only make one character at the start and later add-on the Leader feat.

Note that you can never "dismiss" any character's that you build (perhaps in favor of a companion). So you need to know at the start of the game how many in-game companions you want in your party, and create your own characters (in number) accordingly.
