Looking for a Warlock build

Post by GawainBS »

I'm planning on tackling the OC again, this time with a Warlock. Do you have any suggestions on race/PrCs/feats/items/tactics? I'm also using Kaedrin's PrC pack, and I have both expansions.
The forum search didn't yield that many useful results...

Thanks in advance!

A few builds come to mind, but nothing that hasn't been mentioned on these sites already:

Character builds - NWN2Wiki
Search Builds | NWN2 Character Builder

I used to make warlock builds that focused on shapeshifting. I made a thread about that. You get a nice demon shape as a dark invocation at level 17 or so. Such a class can then specialize in charisma or wisdom. Using a monk's wisdom to AC feat or a palladin's Divine Grace (or Dark Blessing) you can either get nice AC (around 42 at level 17 - plus you get nice willpower saves) or universal saves if you go for palladin/blackguard levels. On top of your alternate form's statistics and abilities, this makes for a powerful melee build.

..I don't know about Kaedrin's, but

Warlocks can be an add-on class, a specialized build, or standard Warlock.

I'm assuming from the title that your interest is in the latter.

IF that's the case then it depends on what module you are playing though - primarily what levels.

Disregarding epic builds..

Level penalties are harsh on a Warlock. My first OC game used a drow for the spell resistance and the attribute bonuses.. BIG MISTAKE.

IMO the best race is the strongheart halfling. 18 Dex. and 17 Char. - at level-up increasing Char.. Putting a dart with an enhancement in their hand.

From there it's pretty much down to which invocations to take and when.

The only real requirement in the feat list is the spell penetrations (asap) and blind fight. Best to also have 1st level only spellcasting prodigy.

It would be the OC, both NWN2 and then on to MotB. Yes, I'm mostly intrested in standard Warlocks.

Yup, strongheart halfling then. ..beyond the primary attributes listed, the other attributes to pump at character creation are your "save" categories: Constitution and Wisdom. (..more Constitution than Wisdom because of the high will save for the class.)

Make sure your concentration, spellcraft, and use magic device skills are maxed at each level.
Warlock Elemental Resistance: Fire and Cold damage.

Invocations:

1. Draining Blast.
2. The Devil's Own Luck.
3. See the Unseen.

(Draining Blast is a will save - 95% of opponents are fortitude-types, so it often works. The Devil's Own Luck pumps your saves, often enough to void the need for spell resistance. See the Unseen is basically Blindsight - pretty much a necessity, but not needed early-on in the OC.)

4. Eldritch Chain
5. Up to you
6. Up to you

(consider flee the scene if you don't think you'll have a "hast"er in your party, also consider the Dead Walk for some additional support - and to provide physical damage.)

7. Chilling Tentacles.
8. Tenacious Plague.
9. Up to you.

(..I used to think that vitriolic was necessary.. but I don't anymore - it is nice against golems, but it isn't necessary - your party can pick up the slack.)

10. Eldritch Doom.
12. Noxious Blast.
13. Word of Changing.

(..Eldritch Doom is a must, and Noxious Blast works rather well with high charisma. Word of Changing is just plain useful.)
