party advice

Post by jack828 »

hey,

some time ago i finished Icewind dale and started playing Icewind dale 2. My party then was:

1) paladin/cleric
2) fighter
3) cleric
4) wizard
5) rogue
6) druid

the thing is when i got to the dragon you have to kill to close the portal i got beat time and time again. So my question is was my party any good at all and could somebody please give me some advice on a good party for a first time player.

thanks

The guardian dragon is an extra hard bounus battle you don't have to win, if you killed everyone in the yuan-ti temple the threat is eliminated and the game story continues when you return to Kuldahar, whether you summoned the dragon or not (you can even return to fight it later when you're more experienced).

Your party is balanced. You have a pure class cleric and a pure class arcane caster, you also have a pure class druid for additional options.
If you still have the save game you can finish the game without too much trouble.

If you want to restart just post what party you'd like to play and you'll get advice, it's not fun playing someone else's party.

i just started the game over with a new party:

1 fighter
2 paladin
3 rogue
4 cleric
5 bard
6 wizard

i decided not to mess with multi-classing because i screwed that up last time ( i couldn't raise my paladin anymore and my wizard/rogue didn't really work like i had expected). hopefully i'll be able to finish this time.

Your party is powerful enough to beat the game. You don't get the druid options (barkskin, call lightning, static charge ...), but the bard songs will improve the other characters a lot.

Good luck ! :)

For the guardian dragon I was able to kill it with the default party hand of fury so it can't be that hard. I had my elf with 20 dexterity and the bracers from that djini (was that it? long time) in the tribal village. That guy had 8 mage levels so he had a lot of buffs for defense. Blur and all 2nd level mirror images. Stoneskin. He tanked the beast along with a plethora of animated dead. Probably everyone was buffed to holy hell. Missile weapons and a lot of the damage done by mordenkainens sword by the sorceror and mage. The druid became a sorceror (from the hands of fury).
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

With your first party you could cast all the call lightnings that you can with the druid, and then cast mass invisibility with the wizard. Then summon the guardian, move your druid and paladin in close to the guardian, and watch the lightning roast the guardian. It is a cheesy way to kill the guardian, but it works.

Both of your parties look solid, but I like the first one better personally. I love taking a paladin(2)/cleric and using them as a front end fighter, and always have a druid.
