Game runs slow on brand new computer..... Need Help

Post by Sereth1728 »

I have a question for this game. Is there any way (through the menu in the game) to make this game run faster. I just started playing it and it runs extremely slow, which makes no sense because i have a brand new computer. If there is any way to make it so the direct x or something can be lowered to make the game run faster; i would be grateful if someone can tell me, like i said, i have a brand new pc, so the game should run fine for this game.

I really thought i'd give this game a chance since it was on gamebanshee and gamebanshee is very picky about what games they post walkthroughs for. Hopfully someone can tell me what i should do.

It's a brand new Asus computer. I'm not gonna lie, I don't see why the graphics card would matter. The game came out in 2005, I bought the computer in 2009. It should work with no slowness involved whatsoever. Plus, asus computers from what i know, are gaming computers. There's got to be something i could do to correct this....I'll check on the graphics card. What's OS? Sorry if this is a stupid question, i just don't know much about computers.

OS is "operating system" (Windows Vista/7/XP, etc)

As for graphics card, yes that would matter. Just because a computer is new doesnt' mean it meets the minimum requirements of a game that came out a few years ago. That's why it's always a good idea to check the system requirements against your system to make sure you have what you need.

Chances are, you do meet the minimum requirements (and possibly exceed them), but it's something to check.
The game occasionally lags a little for me, too, but I haven't found it to be too much of a hardship so far

I have windows vista 64 bit. The game doesn't really lag as much as it just goes slower than usual. It's not that slow, its just that i'm used to games running fast on my system. I have a game called: Mount and blade on my computer. It runs slow in direct x 9. But there is a way to change it to direct x 7. When i change it to that it runs very fast. What i need to know is, is there a way to go into the main menu options of the game and play with the stuff there to make it run smoother?

The grafic card does matter a lot, a lot of cheap computers comes with grafic cards that doesn't match the minimum specs of a lot of the older games, just to mention an example, a friend of mine bought a Laptop, 4 weeks ago, the grafic card is so bad(x4500 if I remember correctly) that he even can't play Max Payne 2 on it.
As for changing the DirectX engine the games run on, I really don't know, I don't think it's possible.

So ok, is there anyway that i can improve or upgrade my computer through a download or am i just screwed?

There's got to be something i can do to make this game work. It really sucks too, i really want to be able to play this game the normal way.

I have to use the task manager to close everything I can in the background (including antivirus/firewalls - always make sure you are offline before shutting off antivirus/firewall software), and run the game in windowed mode.

I have a new problem. The game won't let me load my save game files. It says this when i try and load: Terrquad_read terrob;File Info:: invalid Slot#0.

I have no idea what that means. I guess this game is bugged. Maybe that's why no one ever talked about it. Does anyone know what that means?

Oh and i tried to go into windowed mode, but to no use. So i should open the game up and then select it under task manager? Then where does it say windowed mode?

The slot #0 problem is a vista problem, basically it's a user right problem, you can read more about it here http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/dunge ... 87115.html
The short solution, is to install the game in a directory, other that the c:/program files (x86) dir, c:/games for example , it should solve all your problems :)

I'm moving this to Tech Support but leaving a redirect in DL, so you'll have the benefit of more people to deal with your concerns.

I fixed the problem by running the game in compatability mode. That's all well and good but game still runs at slow speed. Cianoith (sorry i spelled wrong) was saying that it will run faster in windowed mode. How do i get that to run for the game?

I don't know if it really runs faster windowed, but it won't crash when you get a system warning if it is windowed. To run in windowed mode, find the exe shortcut in your start menu, right-click it, and select "Properties." Under the "Shortcut" tab, find "Target", and put -gdi at the end of the line, after the final " mark.
