Thieves guild trouble..

Post by linzfinz337 »

I am trying to get into the thieves guild but am having a bit of trouble. I missed the first chance to steal some guys diary so I was sent on another to steal the owner of the Fighting Chances' sword. Well after getting caught killing her dog and picking the lock to the chest I finally got the sword but before I could get it back to the guy I was arrested. I killed the guy in the jail and ransacked the evidence chest and even went back to the Fighting Chance and looked for the sword in the same chest but it isn't there any more. Does anyone know where it could have possibly went?

Firstly, what is your quest stage now? I.e. What does the journal entry for that quest say?

Second, wasn't the sword in the evidence chest? All your possessions should be removed and placed in those evidence chests upon your arrest.

The journal entry just says that the guy gave me another chance to join the thieve guild.

Then try adding the sword to your inventory by using the console. Activate it with the tilde (~) key and type in:

player.additem 1c14b 1

Ah, then you don't really have any choice if you cant relocate the blade except to reload.

No, I mean reload from an older save where you have yet to steal Rhossan's sword for the first time, or chucked into jail with the blade in your inventory for that matter.

Alternatively reload a save before reporting back to Armand after Methredhel beats you to the diary*. Instead of reporting your 'failure' to Armand, simply steal the diary from Mehtredhel, she goes back to her shack after getting the diary and stashes it in a container in her room.

* You have to cheat to beat her by the way, either by preparing for the theft before hand. or using the console if available, the quest is rigged, you aren't supposed to be able to beat her to the diary.

I've never had the slightest trouble beating Methredhel! Or do you mean it's rigged on X-box?

Oh, and I don't use cheats, either, or 'prepare beforehand' - unless chatting up Puny Ancus is counted as 'preparing beforehand'?

So how did you know where the house was? The first time I played that straight, by the time I'd asked around were the house was it was too late as Methredhel was in and out of the house before I got there. Second+ time around of course I knew where the house was, and still only just beat her.

How anyone can find the house and get in before Methredhel unless they know what house is the target before hand baffles me.

Obviously I've replayed the game enough times to know where the house is almost by heart... heh heh heh... :p

Also, IIRC the beggars can confirm the location of the house for you, marking it as a quest target.

Which is why I chat up Puny Ancus to get the intro to the TG - he is closest after you get the quest, so go talk to him and the house is pinpointed. And even those who don't use the markers will at least know the district and the area of the district they should look in. And, as Loki said, after the first time, you know where it is anyway! I only failed to get there before Methredhel the first time I played TG - oh! and once when I had a very slow char (male Breton Mage-type)
