My dad complains that the problem with DS9 was that they were 'stuck in one place.' Even after they acquired the Defiant, they could only go so far away and be gone for so long. While I agree with him to some extent on that, I do believe they did a great job with the character development and such. I think they were doing great on Voyager with the development of Seven's personality and rediscovery of her humanity(excluding that horrid ep with her and holo-Chakotay). Yes, it did mirror Data to some extent. However, data was seeking to become human and was even willing to give up being an android(and give up the benifits of being an android) to do so. Seven of nine was endeavering(with a bit of pushing from her fellow crewmembers) to regain her humanity, but also being unwilling to give up certain aspects of being Borg. Thus, there were some major differences. My only problem with Seven's joining the crew was that Kes left at about the same time. Kes was way cuter than Seven! I miss Kes. :(

I guess to some degree it depends on what you want from the Star Trek genre, i was never that interested in the exploration side of The original or TNG, i thought the best episode of TNG was involving Law and Hugh. Also the last episode ever was class :) Not forgetting the Episode where everyone on the ship mutates (class :D ) The funny thing about those episodes, they are mostly stationary :D

I always assumed the role of seven was pure eye candy ;) :D Seriously i was never that impressed with her return to humanity, i thoguht they overplayed that hand a little.

Well, it can be a difficult part to portray and a difficult part to write. IMO, the best eps with 7of9 were the ones that had a lot of interaction between Seven and the Doctor.

I like almost every aspect of Star Trek. My dislike of TOS(excluding most the movies) is mostly because of the bad acting(excluding Bones and Spock) and the bad physics. TNG, DS9, and V-ger did a lot better job of sticking to what is [theoretically] possible. Note: I have a strong tendancy to judge sci-fi on how scientifically accurate it is. Yeah, I know it is science-fiction, but I want it to at least by theoretically possible stuff.

I liked the doctors acting abilities, he can at least pull off a believable character, in fact he was the only really good reason to watch the show IMO :)

I agree about Robert Picardo(or whatever is name is) being a good actor. The other best actors in the show, imo, were Leonard Nemoy, Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner(sp?), and the two who played Tom Paris and Kes.

I really despised Voyager. It rarely had a good plot and on those rare occasions that it did it always sold out. The Barge of the Dead episode started out very creepy and disturbing, then puttered out half way through to become drivel (though the idea that hell is really Voyager did have some merit ;) ). And what about that episode where Tom Paris evolves really fast after hitting warp 10? So the ultimate evolution of mankind is a giant slug, eh... My buddies and I still rag on that (One day the Borg will assimilate the slug babies left behind and the universe will be DOOMED! :p ). The only Voyager episodes I enjoyed start to finish were Message in a Bottle (which took place in the Alpha quadrant with minimal interaction from Voyager’s crew, save for the Doctor) and Repentance (which was about the only Voyager episode that didn’t cop out). Enterprise has failed to wow me thus far, but I’m still rating it higher than Voyager. Nowadays, Andromeda (created by DS9 writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe) is the Sci-Fi show that I watch religiously (the Nietzscheans are more “alien” in their views then most Star Trek extraterrestrials). But Enterprise still occasionally grabs my attention. The first season is always shaky for Trek shows as they try to find their center of balance, so I’m hoping Enterprise will find it’s groove eventually. :)
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Yeah i remember that episode i actually sat down to watch it (mid spamming ;) ) thinking it might actually be a good episode

Yeah i think Andromeda is one of the better Sci Fi series at the moment, shame Sky One have dumped it at the moment :(

I didn't get to see all of Barge of the Dead. Wasn't that a two-parter? The only episode I can think of that I didn't like is that one near the end with the Seven/Chakotay holo-romance. Sure, there were some I liked more than others, but that was the only one I hated. Personally, I loved the Voyager series. I loved the DS9 series. I loved TNG series. I have trouble watching TOS without getting nauseated by the bad physics, but I still enjoy watching it occasionally. I love the new series. Ya'll obviously do not share the same love for Star Trek that me and my parents have for it. :p

I also watch Andromeda. I missed a lot of it because I'm usually online all day Saturday and kept forgetting to watch it. I resumed watching it when they were on that star-with-planets thingy of the Magog, and watched it several times after that, but keep forgetting again. Rommie is soo cool. I love androids, especially when they can talk to themselves and it doesn't seem like she's insane for doing so. :D I love Becca's ability to change her hair color. Trance is oh so totally kawaii!!!!! :D :D

I love Trek, I just hold it to a higher standard then some. :p (You don't like TOS?! Sacrilege! :D How can you not like the episode with the coolest alien ever... the Gorn!)

I love Tyr. He's has the best one-liners ever. ("Blind and crippled. If Andromeda was my child I'd drown it.") :)

I watched the first season of Andromeda, but left afterwards. To me, it seemed like it was trying to be star trek, only with war, and the hmans on the other end of the galatic super power.

Actually, I like that ep. There isn't much to do with physics in there for them to mess up. ;) It's not so much that I don't like TOS(though some of the acting is quite bad), it's more that I have problems with certain aspects of it that are very important to me.

Um, complaining about the lack of hard science on ANY star trek series is a little like, i don't know, complaining about the plots on Baywatch. I mean, even if they got the lingo and the effects down better on the later episodes a warp core is still a plot device not an engine ("the warp core is royally f***** captain!" - "how long will it take to fix it?" - "just long enough for us to wrap up the other subplots!") and the answer to everything is always reversing the polarity.

I think 'Enterprise' is shaping up to be the best of the ST series, I like TNG a lot but the first season was far worse than Enterprise has been so far. The cast is probably the best they've had in terms of consistency. No Neelix. No Ryker. No cast of DSN. I can't bring myself to dislike any of them, even the doctor who should be annoying but is actually pretty cool. What's up with that cheesy song at the beginning though? I start laughing every time I hear it.

My favorite episode so far was the one where they went incognito on the medieval planet to find the mysterious radiation source.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and NO HOLODECK EPISODES! :) :) :) :)

Actually, almost everything in TNG/DS9/V-ger/Enterprise is theoretically possible. Some of it is even beginning to become reality. TOS, however, was not nearly so accurate. TOS was also done in the '60s(?), but physics(and science in general) has 'improved' by leaps and bounds since then.

Enterprise is very good, and so is the song. It's Faith of the Heart by Rod Stewart. It's a great song. It is not cheesy.

*ahem* Don't you remember the ep where the first officer got pregnant? He got pregnant inside a holodeck.

Note: I do not consider that to be theoretically possible, but I'm in no way a biologist, so I don't really care.

Trance is the one I find annoying on Andromeda, not Tyr (Speaking of Nietzcheans, I wished they hadn't killed off Rhade. The fight scenes always rock when he's on). BTW, Michael Hurst (Iolaus on Hercules the Legendary Journeys) is actually supposed to be in an upcomming episode of Andromeda. :)
