This is weird - I was reading this thread, all about a new Star Trek show, so I wanted to look into it more, so I searched, and there is NO Information on the whole Internet about Star Trek!!! Isn't that weird - you'd think someone would make a website!
Oh...wait a minute - I think I searched for "Srat Twek" by accident! I'll give it another try...

Yes, I thought last night's episode was very good. Again, they appear to be relatively weak and have to think their way out of situations. The interaction between Vulcan/Human moralities is also interesting. However, I keep expecting Dr. Phlox to start complaining about how hard it is to quit smoking.....
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Anyone remember the episode of TNG that had the USS Hathaway. The Enterprise D did not have enough firepower to beat the Ferangi ship. They had to improvise.

>sigh< i used to be a trekkie fan but after 'babylon 5' i just couldn't get back into it.
star trek will always have special place in my childhood but after awhile the show and it's concepts seem a bit childish to me.
i better get ready for flames...
i like the romulans- i think the shows (except the episode 'balance of power') doesn't do them justice. showing them only as vulcans with a mean disposition. does anyone know why the vulcans and romulans split?
is it as stupid as vulcans want peace and the romulans don't?

@JennaBard: No flames coming from me. I am fully aware of many of the shortcomings of the various Star Trek shows. But I also always been drawn to its vision of the Human Race as inherently noble.
I liked Babylon 5 as well, though at first I felt it was just a rip-off of Star Trek with a whole lot of the Star Wars Cantina scene thrown in. It grew on me eventually, but all the prophecies got really tedious after a while, and the last season wasn't up to par.
Just MHO

The Vulcans and Romulans split because of the teachings of Sarak. The Vulcans (The ones remaining on Vulcan, duh!) believed that Sarak, who said encouraged emotions to not be expressed, and go to a more logical, advanced society created controversy with those who left (Romulans). the ones who left felt that logic was not the best path, and that they could do more if they were to be left on their own. That is the extent that I remember, and I'll try to get back to you later with more info.

Yeah, it was very similar to the "two" species in Star Trek Insurrection. Only, instead of one wanting to not have tech and one wanting tech, it was emotions they were dealing with.Originally posted by Aegis:

Ok i just bought 2 books from the star trek universe.
Part 1 and 2 of the Star Trek Gateway series.
I have read the first one, and it wasn't all that bad.
It was well written it was actually like watching the TV show the characters were well protrayed.
However it wasn't anything special.
So are there better books and stuff?
And who is the best author?

This new Star Trek series sounds promising but over here, we'd have to wait a year or so before it gets shown and it'll probably be pushed into a late night slot.
Its turning out to be a Star Trek weekend. Generations and First Contact are showing tonight and Insurrection tomorrow night.

One of the best authors, imo, is Peter David.Originally posted by Fas:

A couple of good ST books are Star Trek TNG Dark Mirror by Diane Duane and Star Trek TNG Vendetta by Peter David. Dark Mirror has to do with Mirror universe from ST TOS Mirror Mirror. Also good are Star Trek Dark Passions books 1&2 by Susan Wright. They deal with the mirror universe as portrayed in DS9.

Finally got to see the first episode last night (wonderful speedy transference of programmes from the US
). It is pretty much standard Star Trek so far, the dialogue is rather poor, the characters are average and overall i am unimpressed
I have always been a fan of Scott Bakula's acting (even some of his strange horror films
) it might be posssible that he is going to turn the show around, lets hope it turns out to be more DS9 than Voyager

However, the reverse is even worse! It seems like it takes several years for good British programming to make it to the US, and then they are shown only late at night on PBS!Originally posted by Mr Sleep:

Or maybe you don't count yourself lucky, considering your review....

Most British Shows except for Comedy's (like Smack the Pony, Fast Show and Goodness Gracious Me) are pretty rubbish, so you aren't missing out that badlyOriginally posted by Gwalchmai:

I wouldn't exactly call it a review, more like a few early comments, i am going to give it some time before i write it off as total crap (at which point i might extrapolate and pontificate slightly more), i gave Voyager a whole season before i declared it was inferior.

Personally, I think Voyager was better than DS9, though there were a few eps I wasn't happy with. Such as, the episode where 7of9 and Chakotay got together. Even if it was only a holo-romance, I did not like it.I have always been a fan of Scott Bakula's acting (even some of his strange horror films) it might be posssible that he is going to turn the show around, lets hope it turns out to be more DS9 than Voyager

Well i guess it was basically because of Neelix and the twee plotlines, i never was that into Star Trek, but i respected DS9 for it's excellent stroy arc and the good Character interaction.Originally posted by Sailor Saturn:

As for DS9, I may not have the most accurate opinion since I missed most of 'some of the best parts.' Where we lived for a while, we couldn't get DS9, so I missed the entire part that includes Jadzia and Worf getting married. Though I was not happy with Jadzia's death, I was happy with who they replaced her with. Ezri was kawaii!!!
