Cheat doesn't work

While playing Oblivion I tried to improve my strength to 50,
so I pressed the toggle key ~, then selected my character and typed in:

player.setAV<Strength><50>

and the I pressed enter.
But this doesn't work.

Every website says something else and Im gettineg a bit desperate
Does somebody know the real code?

The player in front of the player.setav command already refers to your PC, hence selecting isn't strictly necessary. Forgive the nitpicking, but here is the correct command;

player.setav strength 50
