can't highlight the chest

I find it difficult to highlight a body or a chest in order to get/loot its treasures. An example is when my character comes to see Jauffre to give him the amulet of kings; he opens a chest and I can't highlight it. I move back and forth ... to no avail. Is there a sure way to do this?

I don't really understand the problem. Just use the 'use' key on the chest. If you have crosshair, just aim at the chest and use the 'use' key.

lre oting bodies and chests

The problem is before I can use the use key ( cross bar ), I have to see the chest/body but I can't see it. I walked back and forth towards the chest and I still couldn't see it.

Wait, I'm slightly confused here. Does that mean you can't see the body/chest? I.e. The chest doesn't appear on your screen?

Or is it the activate icon that isn't appearing even whilst you have your mouse hovering over the said container?

It was just the way you worded your post that got me confused

In any case, I have had similar problems targeting actors that have been knocked down either with a back swing power attack or arrow. They seem to shrink drastically in size when on the ground for some mysterious reason. One way to work around this is to try fiddling with your in game video options. Increase or decrease the resolution until the chest is becomes easier to click on. Also wont hurt if you are running a fully patched game, unofficial Oblivion patch included.
