puzzled - is my game misbehaving?

Post by pawz »

I have been playing Oblivion again for a few weeks now, and enjoying it, but I am beginning to think all is not well. I seem not to be progressing.

I have had 5 training lessons from various guild members, but now, if I ask for further training I am always given the message that I have reached the limit for my level (novice). I have gone up a grade in athletics, and all the other bars are at various levels well short of 100%, so I would have thought I would still be very eligible for training. Also the progress to next level bar is not showing any colour at all, completely empty.

I have got twelve slaughterfish scales to give to the fisherman, but the quest does not seem to have finished, so I cannot give them to him - do I have more to do?

I go to the First Edition bookshop to look at a book ( knightfall?) but nothing about it comes up in the topics bar so I cannot advance further.

Any ideas please?

I have OBMM and am running OOO, natural habitat, mainquestfinished and enhanced sky, I think. No conflicts noted. The game does seem more peaceful than I remember in the past and I am enjoying just tromping about and following the watch on their rides through the countryside - cos they protect me, but I would like to advance a bit higher. Before when I played it I had gone up at least a couple of levels in the time I have been playing it now. If I try some of the caves and quests I did then I will just get killed now :(

Sorry if this is telling you what you already know but:

1. You can only train skills five times with trainers between level-ups; so if you are first level and have had bought five training sessions you will have to level up before you can buy more training.

2. You only progress towards the next level by improving major skills; if for example Sneak is not a major skill, then no matter how many times you increase it you will not level up.

3. The Slaughterfish quest requires specific scales,
Rumare Slaughterfish Scales
, not normal Slaughterfish Scales.

As I said, apologies if this is too basic, but it is necessary to clarify exactly what your situation is.

galrean, that is very helpful - thank you. In respect of the Lake Rumare (?) slaughterfish, there are two large ones down by the ruins, but when I attack one, I seem to miss, and then it leaps up into the air and doesn't come down again. I tried twice with the same result. Is this just a glitch perhaps? Anyway, I understand now why that quest hasn't ended as I got some of the scales from other locations. Cheers, you have helped a lot :)

What quest are you trying to advance here?

In respect to your slaughterfish dilemma, I have encountered that a couple of times too. Generally I found using a life detect spell to aid me in accurately targeting the fish in question. Not to mention locating more of its brethren in the immediate vicinity.
