Prauge to Veinna crash

Post by Nesphandus »

Hello all,

I recently purchased this game again and I am having a issue that I have yet to resolve.

As some other individuals have encountered; my game crashes when I try to leave Prague after speaking to Ecaterina and attempting to depart through the east gate to head to Vienna.
(I apologize for posting a additional thread on this but none of the other posts have assisted me in fixing this issue as of yet.)

I am running windows Vista home premium 32 Bit
on a Toshiba laptop (AMD Turion 64 X2 2Ghz possessor)
2G ram

The game is set to run in windows 95 compatibility mode,
and is patched to 1.1

The Game runs just fine up until this point.
I had to reinstall as I had not saved after I had Freed Erik, and when I reloaded my game that was saved before I had entered the Chantry all the enemies were not there and neither was Erik, the cut scene played but even tho Erik was taking his character was not visible and he did not join my party.

So I Reinstalled the game and had to play through again this time I saved right before taking to Ecatarina, but the game crashed once again when I tried to leave for Vienna, no matter how many times I reload and try again It continues to crash at this point.

Sorry for the long winded explanation but I would really like to play through this game and finish it for once.

Any advice would be appreciated

Solution mentioned at gamespy: is to take the saved game file from gamespy.

P.S. Removing all the files from the SaveGames folder (e.g. before copying the SP1 savegame folder from the gamespy) seems to be necessary to avoid further crashes. (Otherwise the game loads at Vienna, but crashes when entering the heaven).

P.P.S. Okay, I have figured it out!
When going to Vienna or back to Prague, before clicking on the gate:
hit Esc (to pause the game), alt+tab (to switch out of the game), backup your savegames and clean the SaveGames folder (leave nothing in it). Alt+tab back to the game, click on the gate: it works!

Thank you ArtemGR

this solution worked to get me to Vienna, however now I cannot leave the Cathedral haven.
I click on the door but nothing happens
(note I had to clear my save games before I could enter the cathedral haven as the same issue was occurring, click on the door nothing happens.)

Frustrating to say the least.

Do I have to continually clear the save game folder to prevent the game from having these locking issues.

Either way, once I get my main PC up and running I'm going to install the game on it, maybe I will have better results on a full system instead of a laptop.

Thank you again for replying with a solution to the crash issue.
I'm sure I must have buggered something up while doing it.
