Playing a spellcaster? (Warwitch)

Post by GawainBS »

I always wonder how you play one. What do you do while your spells are recharging? You can't buy 20 of each spell in the beginning of the game...

Any advice on this? Thanks in advance!

Most of the time you use melee, in Dungeon lords you don't really cast spells all the time, by the time you reach your 3rd tier you should have plenty of money ( if you are playing DL 1.4 or CE , in the older versions you can only carry 1 of each type of armor/weapon ), even so, it's very hard to go 100% spell casting, you will have to rest a lot, or cheat at the shop using high bargaining and honor (you can buy from the shop and sell it again at a higher price ).
So the best thing is having a second class that will allow you to use light/medium weapons/armor, you can also go for heavy armor/weapons, but for that you gonna need a lot of xp.

Well, I was planning on an Elf Mage/Adept/Battlemage/Enchantress/Warwitch. That should cover the armour & weapons issue then.

Go for adept first, if you play on hard, having magic weapons is really nice (you can use the mage goblin staff) until you reach the city. Instead of battlemage, paladin could also be very usefull, it will lower the cost of leveling the armor/weapon skills considerably.

But Battlemage grants access to an extra Arcane learning bonus and to Scribe.
Starting as Adept isn't so bad an idea.

Yes, I guess you will have to make a choice, either go heavy armor, and mostly use spells to take take of the small stuff (like bee's, wolfs, etc) and use weapons for the more tough monsters; or mostly use spells/crystals and use medium weapons.
The one of the best builds imo is dual wield combined with spell casting, but for that you will need to drop the adept class and go fighter/marauder or samurai, it kinda sucks not having a crystal of vision, but imo the mage spells are more than sufficient, having but adept and mage spell is kinda overkill, but it really depends on your style of playing :)

I've always played meleecharacters, hence my effort to try a caster.
Dual Wield was fun, but it would indeed be hard to fit it in here.

No. They're both third tier classes, and you can only have one.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."
