Reading this thread has actually greatly changed my opinion of the ending. I always thought it was rubbish, possibly because first time through I played DS and tended to end conversations as soon as they began by telling the person to shut up...DS 'I don't care about other people and what they have to say' type character. The end result was that I did not actually find out who I was or what was going on at all.
However, I now think the thing to remember is that this is NOT a story about 'OMG we're saving the galaxy!!!!' (which KOTOR1 was). This is a story about one person, your character and how they choose to come to terms with the aftermath of the war. I guess you could even take it further and see the 3 Sith Lords as personifications of the harm the war has done to the mind of the Exile, or of everyone who was touched by it. You have to deal with the pain, sense of betrayal and sense of pointless emptiness which anyone who fights in a war feels.
The whole point of the ending is Kreia's line: there isn't any great secret, there's just you. I think I feel a whole lot better about the game.
OK, I'm being pretentious now. I'll go away.

That's pretty much how I see it. Huzzah!Alcina wrote: However, I now think the thing to remember is that this is NOT a story about 'OMG we're saving the galaxy!!!!' (which KOTOR1 was). Much of the dislike for K2 seems to come from players who want the kind of "save the galaxy" story. I always preferred K2 for having that darker, deeper edge - though obviously the rushed finish gets in the way at points. The gameplay at the end is slightly repetitive, but the rest of the game makes up for it IMO.
That 'save the galaxy' story isn't the reason why I dislike KOTOR 2's plot. I dislike it because of the plot holes and parts of the game that didn't make much sense.bigredpanda wrote: Much of the dislike for K2 seems to come from players who want the kind of "save the galaxy" story. ''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price
A lot of the game does suffer from that fact that to fully understand the plot, its really necessary to take a lot of things from what some NPCs say and some times that are said in different conversations around the game. There's never one conversation which spells out the plot and there isn't one that sums up the idea nicely...had Obsidian had more time, they probably would've cleaned that up.
@Alcina, if you've got a renewed interest in the game, I posted a link to an excellent walkthrough/analysis of the entire (and I mean entire) game. The writer really ties all the plots together, and its really a wonderful read. Its a little further down the forum page at the moment...

Well, it really does raise the level of intelligence in the game by requiring the player to actually pay attention, read, and string plot threads together. I certainly enjoyed it as well, but its one of the many reasons why (I think) this game is much more reviled than the first. Chalk it up to console gaming or whatever, but most games don't really force the player to pay close attention anymore, which is a shame.bigredpanda wrote:True. Though, again, this was something I actually enjoyed about the game...

Truthfully the ending wasn't ''bad'' but just sad because I finished the game and there was no more D= I think Bioware should take like 10 years making a really long long long Star Wars KOTOR 3 =D that would be awesome....at 25 years old I would still play >=]
